“Happy Hour on the terrace”
Reviewed January 25, 2012

Happy to recommend our happy hour experience.
Good food and drinks - efficiently served at the nice tables on the terrace with heaters. Left with a small bill and a warm glow.

“I wish I had come here sooner...”
Reviewed November 15, 2011

This little gem of a restaurant is steps from the beach. The ambiance is cozy and romantic and has a cute bar area.

Prior to eating, we had martinis which were well prepared and they did not skimp on the amount of liquor – we did not order our usual wine accompaniment this time, but the wine list appeared quite adequate. We went with a friend who had been there a number of times. He recommended we try the Escargot appetizer and to ask for “extra garlic”. The snails were perfectly prepared in the traditional French style, and we happily dipped and dipped our bread into the delicious sauce. The different types of warm bread rolls appeared to be house made and were outstanding. The price was a bit high for the Escargots ($15 for six), but that concern quickly melted away as we devoured everything.

Our friend, the one who recommended this restaurant, had his usual Sand Dabs, while we ordered Veal Marsala and Chicken Piccata mains. We all sampled the Sand Dabs and they were perfectly sautéed with a delectable lemon caper sauce. The Veal Marsala consisted of tender veal scallops in a white wine sauce. A special treat was what their menu referred to as de-cobbed corn (just a small scoop of them, but oh so tender and flavorful). The Chicken Piccata was also perfectly pan fried and delectable. And the presentation of each plate was a treat for the eye.

For dessert, two of us shared the house made Apple Tart. It was a huge hit, with tasty apple texture, pastry that was out of this world, a rich caramel sauce and whipped cream. The size was more than enough for two, unlike some of the dessert teasers that are served in many restaurants.

The service was outstanding, with frequent informally amusing comments and recommendations from the Thai server who much added to the enjoyment of the evening. I live locally and could kick myself for not coming to 12 Washington sooner - there are so many menu items I want to try!

“Charming ambience”
Reviewed June 1, 2010

In Nov.2009, we took a cab out to marina Del Rey while on a layover at LAX. What a delightful, relaxing meal we enjoyed at 12 Washington. Companions all ageed it was among some of the best we enjoyed...chicken yummy, wine good. Great location for a walk along the ocean after a meal.

“OMG!”
Reviewed November 2, 2009

That was absolutely fabulous. We were treated like family from the time we sat down. Oysters, Artichoke, shrimp Appetizers were amazing. Then the main course, Orange roughy, Sanddrab, and rib eye...not a morsel left on the plates. This was such a wonderful experience, while a bit pricey... worth doing again!

“Cute little bistro with great food and wine”
Reviewed May 20, 2009

We chose this restaurant based on the previous reviews. My husband and I were staying in Marina del Rey and visiting our 2 sons who are currently going to school in L.A. and we were taking them out to dinner along with some friends who live in L.A. We wanted to go somewhere where our friends wouldn't have been before and that would be really good and kind of different; not one of the typical big restaurants on the water with a great view but average food. This restaurant is steps away from Venice Beach in a very funky little area which is full of restaurants and bars. It doesn't actually face the beach but we sat outside at the front on the street and we could see the beach. It was a small, intimate patio with heat and the menu was terrific. There is a good selection of seafood and meats and even the vegetables were excellent. The food is really fresh and the sauces are delicious. I started with an artichoke (whole) appetizer which was beautifully laid out on the plate with all the work done for me. Then I had Veal Marsala which was fabulous.Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their dinners and the wine selections. We didn't go inside the restaurant but it's a very cute little European-looking bistro. We had a lot of fun and were pleased that we picked this restaurant for a nice dinner.
