“Good bargain for this area”
Reviewed April 25, 2010

The Ramada Marina is a quiet facility that offers very large rooms and comfortable beds. The morning breakfast is the standard make-your-own waffles, frozen muffins and cold cereal. The service is limited to the person at the front desk who is sometimes difficult to find. The best part about the Ramada is the price...especially for the Monteray area. Since we spent our time sightseeing, we weren't really looking for any more than what the Ramada offered.

We had a room with two double beds on the Saturday of Valentine's Day Weekend for $72 plus tax. Asked for and got a room on the top floor. When we got there, the door was still open, propped open by a wet rag that housekeeping had forgotten. While that wasn't so welcoming, at least housekeeping had finished cleaning the room! The room was large and comfortable. Our only real complaint was when we returned from dinner around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night and couldn't find any parking in the lot or curbside nearby. We went into the lobby to talk to the front desk person, who told us that we would have the same problem in San Francisco. We reminded her that we were in Marina, not S.F., and that we weren't comfortable parking the car a distance from the hotel and then walking. She then told us to park along a curb by the loading zone, which we did. Then she proceeded to tell us that some guests bring more than one car per room. If that's the case, we feel that when they're sold out (as they were the night we stayed), they should somehow make sure it's one car per room in the lot. Perhaps they need to hand out parking "permits" for the dashboard ....one per room! Other hotels where I've stayed have done that.

The other minor complaint I had was that the elevators took a long time. When leaving, we had to wait three minutes (I timed it) for the elevator.

I'd stay here again because it wasn't expensive, it's a good location, and the room was comfortable, as long as they'd continue to let me park near the loading zone if I couldn't find a parking stall.

Unbelievable rate--Only paid $54 (AAA rate) for the room, which was quite large. Had a king bed, small table and 2 chairs, nice TV, micro, fridge plus one whole corner was empty--that is how large the room was. TV had the most cable channels I've ever had in a hotel, there must have been 100+ channels though the room TV listing didn't match the actual TV channels. A short drive (15 min. maybe) into Monterey and away from the very high-priced or lower-priced sleazy Monterey hotels. Room was quiet, but there were only 7 cars in the parking lot, so the hotel was almost empty. Breakfast was adequate with the basics including make-your-own waffles. No one else was in the breakfast room when we were. Front desk staff was polite, but rarely was anyone there, you had to ring a bell to get them or the night guy was outside in the parking lot. Not sure why the hotel was virtually empty on a Wed. night, but stay here if you want a great rate in a seemingly safe area. Lots of restaurants just up the street towards Highway 1.

Our room was spacious, with microwave and small fridge, but we noticed a dip in the upkeep from a year ago. Some cleanliness issues in the room, our coffee maker was slow, and we discovered an old filter thrown in the water reservoir. Breakfast was basic and both pitchers of milk were quite sour. Our next visit we will look for somewhere else.

We needed two rooms for an overnight. The rates were low and the quality not bad - pretty good for this tier motel. The included breakfast was average.

The rooms were clean and quiet and the beds were comfortable. Two things we appreciated were the early check in (2:00) and late check out (12:00).

About the only negative was that the rooms could use an updating, like the lobby.

We wanted a room that was easy to access ( low traffic) and quiet and clean. This fit the bill exceptionally well. #rd floor room was very very large and clean almost new looking. It had two large TVs plus a DVD player connected to one of the TVs. Bathroom nice and up to date. Refrigerator and microwave oven in the room. Large king bed. Of course no view from the window to speak of but wasn't looking for that. No laundry facilities on site but a coin laundry acropss the street easily walked to. Very easy to get out to Hwy 1 and Monterey, Big Sur and Pebble Beach area. No problems or issues. Hotel was full all nights but noise was never a problem.

Booked this hotel through Hotwire for a weekend catchup with friends. Room was large and clean. Small refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot. Two TVs and a DVD player. One King bed and a sofa bed. King bed as comfortable; sofa bed was average. There were mirrors above the desk and a nice almost-full length mirror outside the bathroom. We stayed on the road side of the hotel, but there wasn't much road noise. Shower/tub combo with one of those shower curtain rods that sweep out a little so you don't feel so cramped. Basic toiletries and adequate towels.

Staff were friendly and helpful, but not always at the desk. Twice when we came in from our activities there were people waiting at the front desk and no staff could be found.

Parking is free, but if you have multiple cars they ask you to park one on the street if the hotel is mostly booked. If you're coming from Highway 1, you'll need to drive past the hotel and then make a U-turn to come back to the hotel.

Business center has a fax machine and one computer next to the front desk, and a very small store for incidentals. Vending machine in the lobby for sodas.

Free breakfast in the morning included cereal, instant oatmeal, bagels/pastries/toast, and a waffles (batter dispenser and one waffle iron - you have to flip the waffle and cook both sides if you want it semi-crisp). The waffles weren't bad, but there was a constant line. Microwave available. Some fresh fruit, coffee/tea, juices. The seating area had approximately 10 tables and it was generally very crowded. Hotel staff did come by periodically to refill the cereals/milk/cofee, but there were times when it was pretty slim pickings.

We stayed here trying to find a cheaper place than in Monterey. There's not much really to do in Marina and an adequate, though not extensive selection of restaurants. Essentially its a small bedroom/residential community. There's a timeshare/resort on the sand dunes, but not much else. The sand dunes were fun to hike, but it is a short hike to reach the actual beach.

Monterey was about 20-30 minutes away depending on traffic and how fast you want to drive. Since you have to pay for parking in Monterey (at Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf), depending on the room rate you may not be saving much money. I'll probably try to stay closer to Monterey next time just for convenience. If this hotel was closer, I would stay here again.
