I stayed here over the Valentine's Day/President's Day weekend this year. This motel was moderately priced for this time of year..actually it was quite a good value now that I think back. Anyhow, it is family run I think and they were friendly. The location is decent as far as fast food joints, a bar, a Taqeuria next door.

It was clean and quiet. Everything worked, the water pressure was decent. The bathroom decor is 1960s/1970s color but that's fine. It didn't feel worn or old....the place was well kept for its age.

Room Tip: Their is no pool or fitness center..I just h

My family was on its way home, and decided give affordable lodging a shot. For a Saturday night, this place was less than half the cheapest we could find elsewhere. The 4 stars are more for the value and experience than property rating. The managing couple were friendly, providing us with wifi setup, restaurant info, and extra shampoo. Aside from being managers, they were wonderful people. 50's style construction, tiles and fixtures are well maintained and adequate. The room was spacious with two dressers, night stands, table, tv, fridge, small coffee maker and microwave. The room was squeaky clean, but squeaky also describes the bed and floor. Wife thought the bed and one pillow (hers) was too hard. Normal conversation from the adjacent room could be heard but did no present a problem. The 4x4 shower had tricky controls making temperature adjustment somewhat difficult. Despite being on the the main road, having a liquor store sharing the parking lot, and a big card room a block away, noise was minimal. We shall return.

Room Tip: Our room was #2

Older and not fancy but clean and comfortable. No breakfast offered but there are plenty of places close by to eat. If you're a family on a budget and don't want to spend all your money on a place to stay then this motel is a good option.

My wife and I were planning a trip to Monterey this summer. I was looking for affordable lodging, and stumbled across online reviews for Old Marina Inn. We called (because you cannot make reservations online) and got a quote on a very reasonable rate. (Of course, rates vary with room demand, and are higher on weekends and during local events.) We decided to give the place a try.

Customer service was excellent; we made our reservations about a month in advance. A week before our trip, we had to postpone our arrival by one day due to a funeral. There was no problem with that.

At first, I was wary when I read that there was a liquor store next door, and even more alarmed when I saw it just across the parking lot from our room. But there were no issues; the place was very quiet, even on a Friday night in summer.

The room was clean and very large; the king bed was extremely comfortable (though the pillows were a bit on the small side). The water pressure in the shower was nice and high, and the water was nice and hot.

Amenities (TV, fridge, coffee maker, microwave, free wi-fi) were very convenient. So was parking right outside our room.

We liked staying outside of Monterey - it's really just 4 or 5 miles/a few minutes down the road. There is a public beach within about a mile or so of the hotel.

All in all, a great value for the money! We plan on staying here again.

Room Tip: The place is only one story; there are only 24 rooms in a U-configuration; you park in front of your...

My wife and I were on the road and this was a super stop. Great price for a large, clean room. Good bed. Nice Japanese restaurant next door. Nothing plastic about this place. Takes you back to what motels once were like. Friendly and helpful.

12 miles north on 101 from Carmel, Del Monte off ramp (also 7 miles north of Monterey), in the town of Marina is a retro 50s era vintage motel: The old Marina Inn. When I travel and need a good rest the only important items are: clean & safe, quiet and a good bed. You park in front of your room at this single story motel. Everything except the beds are old and everything is clean and works. Little niceties included are kleenex, shampoo, a real shower door, and quality TP. In high season mid September 2012 I paid $63 for a single king bed room on Thursday and $83 on Friday. This is not a place to relax and hangout because there are no amenities such as pool, restaurant, or interesting immediate surroundings (that's why it is max 2 stars); it's a place to spend the night comfortably and inexpensively.

Room Tip: Stay in rooms 8 or higher for quietest location.

The Old Marina Inn is an older family-owned motel in Marina, which is a working class town. The rooms are very large, could probably use updating, but are very clean, and the rooms that we rented included refrigerator and microwave. The owners are very helpful and moved us to other rooms when we found that we had neglected to select non-smoking rooms. A walk of one mile took us to a bluff overlooking the ocean where we saw dolphins diving in the surf. There is also a breakfast place within walking distance that we would have driven a long distance for -- Tommy's Restaurant, on Cypress. Monterey was a very quick and easy drive, as was Carmel. We would not recommend this motel to those who seeking a resort-like atmosphere or up-scale accommodations, but it was perfect for us.
