“You can't go wrong with this hotel chain”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

After being in two hotels of this chain in our trip to Los Angeles, I can say with certainty that this is my first choice from now on. If you are traveling with family, the suits of the Residence inn by Marriott are a perfect place to sleep. The kitchen, the breakfast, the nice rooms and welcoming staff are all making these hotels a perfect home away from home. This hotel in particular was renovated lately
and it all looks beautiful.

Room Tip: All the rooms look like little apartments

Our family has stayed at this residence inn several times for summer beach trips. An extensive remodel has happened since our previous stay. The lobby, pool area, dining area, really all the public areas are beautiful. The new fire pit is a great addition at the pool.

We will definitely return!

At the time of this review the hotel had just completed its renovation. The updated roods are nice but the rates have gone up considerably.

Nice flat screen TV's in the rooms. To bad the selection of stations and the speed of the channel changer both stink.

Light switches. The rooms have new style motion sensing switches. In order to turn the switches on you need to press a button located under the sensor. Three of my rooms switches had crushed in sensors from people struggling to turn them on. They need to flip the switch install or get better quality switches.

The best part of the hotel is the staff. Everyone I met is very friendly and helpful. It starts at the top with the hotel manager who I met at his Monday night August guest BBQ.

Those of you who travel know the Residence Inn. The typical issues exist in all of them.

If you are on the first floor and you get someone who walks on their heels staying above you, it can be like living in a drum. Even the steps of a light footed person are easily heard. They could have taken care of this during construction by spending a few thousand dollars for floors in their entire complex. At his point, I can't understand why Marriot doesn't foam insulate the space between the floors.

Getting food at the morning "free buffet" is taxing. When you stay at a MGS hotel that is used by families it can be annoying to say the least. The people act as if they're "Preppers" gathering food. I constantly saw people taking more food than a family could possibly eat, sandwiched between two plates headed to their rooms. The food is wiped out the second it is replaced and you need to wait quite a while for the food to be replaced if it is at all.

There is not enough parking. Every night people ended up parking in the fire lanes.

Getting out of the hotel on Sepulveda can be difficult in morning traffic.

I don't know of a solution for this is.

I'd still stay there again, as it is the best option of its type around.

Room Tip: First floor rooms are loud because of upstairs walking noise.

This is our choice of hotels when in Manhattan Beach. The rooms are spacious, clean and convenient to shopping and LAX airport. On one trip my wife was on her way back to the airport and her rental had a flat tire. The staff did everything they could to get her on her way, so that she could catch her flight. Can't say enough about the INN.

Our family of 4 stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment for 1 night after our over night flight from Australia and prior to driving up the California coastline. The room was a loft suite - 2 queen beds and a sofa bed - the queen beds were comfortable, though number 2 son (13 yo) said the sofa bed wasn't (it could have done with a thicker mattress). The location is handy to LAX (about 15 mins drive south), and has a Target store located next door, which was great for stocking up for the road trip. The room was clean and the bathrooms were well appointed. Our only gripe - no kettle for those of us that are tea drinkers (there is a coffee machine in the room that will boil the water, or you can try the saucepan on the stove).
Whilst it suited us fine with our two teenage sons (17 & 13), I wouldn't recommend staying here if you have younger children - the stairs up to the loft bedroom and bathroom are quite steep and there are about 12 of them - so a long way to tumble down if your younger children aren't so agile.
Manhattan Beach itself is about 5 mins drive away. It is a much nicer alternative for lunch and a view of the Californian coastline than Venice Beach up the road - which may be "hipper", but is certainly more "grungey" (I didn't like it and I didn't feel entirely safe at Venice Beach!)
Our room itself overlooked the service department for the local Toyota dealership - not a great first view of LA - but we didn't have much time to take in the view anyway. The Residence Inn staff were helpful - though, a common theme amongst a number of the Residence Inns that we have visited in our USA trip has evidenced that none of the staff are particularly friendly.
A hot buffett breakfast is complimentary with your stay - which helps when you're ready to get underway on a road trip the next morning.
I'd stay here again for an overnight stay whilst transiting through LAX or starting on another USA holiday - but probably not for an extended period of time.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite that is near your car and on the ground level - that way, you won't have to drag...
