Initially we were very impressed, staff were friendly and the rooms nice, however we soon discovered the hotel is going through renovations of all public areas (not impressed with Expedia for omitting to tell us this) which meant certain areas were closed or had workmen, also major building work next door to the hotel so if the incessant piped music (in all public areas including garden and corridors) doesn't drive you mad, the crashing and banging of the construction will! The 'vibe' restaurant was closed for dinner throughout our 4 day stay as there weren't enough customers (although hotel appeared busy) and the bar was consistently empty - 'vibe' really didn't have a vibe and the whole place seemed to be having a major identity crisis as it was trying to be 'hip and trendy' yet the majority of the clientele appeared quite mature in age. Upon check-out we asked about the advertised hourly shuttle service to LAX to be told quite abruptly by the concierge 'no' and that we had to take a taxi (this at 10am on a Sunday). Put a bit of a dampener on our stay - sure there are better properties close by.

We stayed at the Belamar before a flight that was leaving at LAX. From my research I found this hotel to be the best option for a hotel that is close to the airport, has a shuttle, and is very sophisticated. This hotel is an experience… to say the least. Giant pictures of Chihuahuas and white fringy carpet are the types of accents that make it so unique. I really love the edge that this hotel has- they make you feel like a celebrity. The price was very reasonable for all the amenities that the hotel offers. We did not go in the pool, but the grounds were very pretty and you really don’t feel like you are in the heart of the city. There is a shopping center close by and we ended up eating at CPK! Lol, not super sophisticated but it was good as usual. The room was very clean and everything seems brand new. The bedding was very attractive and the bathroom was a good size. The room was big enough… but if staying for longer than a couple of days I would probably opt for a suite. I would not recommend this hotel for older adults, since my parents thought the dog pictures were cute but a bit odd and didn’t quite get the whole theme. I’m not really sure if children would enjoy it. I would recommend it for young marrieds and couples as a cool get away and for being a couple minute shuttle ride to the airport.

This is a great spot to stay near the beach and avoid the typical musty old beach motel! The hotel is convenient to the 405 highway and LAX. Located on the corner of a busy street and a residential neighborhood the hotel was surprisingly quiet. Staff was friendly, gave directions to nearby attractions and restaurant recommendations. The valet parking is now free, a definate bonus! The beach is within walking distance, about 1.5 miles; you can take the street or a nice walking path. Bedding and towels were super soft and room was very clean, but the room is pretty basic and the bathroom a little small. Pool was o.k., not a higlight for me. Overall, very good experience for a quiet relaxing weekend.

The hotel itself is not in bad condition. They did a decent job refurbishing it and the rooms are modern and comfortable. Our stay was short, but it felt like a lifetime. Unfortunate for us, a huge Valentine's day party was being held there--which we were made aware of when we came back in for the evening. It would have been great to join had we not had a flight the next morning at 6am or if we were 16 years old (the maturity level of the party-goers). The party and music (which all felt like it was next door) went on until about 2am, then the party guests decided to take the party back to their rooms, the hallways, and outside our door. About 4am when the smoke alarm went off (this was the only time an actual response was issued by the staff after a dozen or so phone calls to the front desk asking them to please help us out with their other guests to keep it down). I could on forever but to make a long story short after rushing off to our flight after 30 min of sleep., the hotel gave us no apology, no discount or rate reduction, and over-charged us for parking our car. Back home we called and spoke to the manager who seemed sincere enough in his apologies and he said the best he could do since we "booked online" was to give us free vouchers for our next stay there. It's been a year and a half since then and what a surprise...no vouchers to be found. Stay away from this "Hip" Motel 6.
