This restaurant is very busy at dinner time. However while waiting for a table we were served with excellent bread ,pizza slices ,water ,lemonade ,etc. Once seated being first timers we got also to taste great pasta. I had a chicken parmigiana which was one of the best I ever had.My wife and one of our friends had Veggie Lasagna and they enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable and portions have good sizes. Service was good except at the end when they almost kicked us out to give the table to those waiting outside. Overall is a good value restaurant with excellent italian bread ,pizza and pasta.

If you want a great small local family resturant right off the beach in SoCal, Manhattan Beach, CA you need to check out this spot. Be prepared for a short wait but Mama D's will be make the time pass by in a blink bringing out fresh bread and appetizers. And the food is just like home.
Mama's red wine drinks just fine.

One concern - the local parking is a challenge. And Manhattan Beach, as great a location as it is has forgotten visitors bring business to them but parking is strickly enforced. Don't risk feeding your meter.

I live in Manhattan Beach and probably visit the restaurant once or twice a year - the last visit wasn't up to the usual level. Wait was longer than indicated, service was mediocre and food was just okay. They just opened another new seafood themed restaurant 2 buildings down - maybe that was sucking some of their focus away.

The wait was suppose to by 25 - 30 minutes, however, we probably sat outside for about 40+ waiting - they feed you garlic bread, water, lemon aid while you wait - and the heat lamp was a good idea.

Decor: Nothing special - brightly lit, crowded, noisy - same as always.

Service: A let down this time - waitress kept forgetting things or bringing items much later after repeated requests. Usually high school kids with lots of energy - not this time.

Food: Huge menu - as reasonable - no longer cheap prices. Pasta was good, but not great - same with the pizza and other entrees.

Alternatives - although pricier, you can go across the street to Talia's, around the corner to Mangiamo's for Italian. If you have even a bigger budget - try La Sosta Entoica a mile away on the Hermosa border => Excellent.

We went to Mama D's the other Friday night and had a wonderful time. We called ahead to see if they would take reservations or even call-ahead seating. They said they wouldn't, but that was okay because even at 7pm on a Friday night we were first in line waiting for a table for two. While waiting they brought us many free appetizers and their signature Italian loaf of bread. The service was very accommodating.

Once inside the restaurant, we were seated towards the front of the restaurant and truly enjoyed the warmth and feel of the restaurant. We got some bread and garlic olive oil dipping sauce and had a wonderful waitress who was very informative. Our only complaints were that it was a little bit noisy and the seats were too close together. We ordered two dishes with the pink sauce on them (a mix of marinara and cream), both of which tasted fresh and lovely. It was some of the best Italian food I've had. We brought our own bottle of wine, as the uncorkage fee was only $7. However, upon getting our bill we found that we weren't even charged for the fee (so we left a bigger tip!).

We will definitely go back to Mama D's anytime we want some fresh, homestyle Italian food.

No-fuss Italian comfort food. A neighborhood "walk to dinner" favorite.
