My wife and I have two kids so a one night getaway is a rarity. We decided to head to malibu for a expnesive (but worth every penny) dinner at nobu in malibu. We just wanted to find a cheaper hotel since all we needed was a comfy bed and a quite place to sleep. Too bad we didn't get any sleep at all.

The walls in the malibu motel are paper thin. We had a couple in the room next door who stayed up late (we think they went to bed around 4am.) They wern't really being loud at all, just talking, playing music on there phone. But It sounded like they were in the same room as us. My wife and I didn't sleep all night, and went home longing for a night of good rest.

The thing that made us mad is that I had asked for a quiet room, and the motel was empty. They stuck us right next to someone when there were probably 20 other rooms that were empty. We would have asked to change rooms in the middle of the night but the front desk closes at 10pm and they don't have anyone on the grounds till 8 in the morning.

Needless to say I would not be going back here.

We didn't know what to expect should have checked with trip advisor it was a spur of the moment decision in an otherwise well planned out trip. It's hard to beat the Pacific Ocean. The price was right that's for sure. I don't want to be overly critical because again it was last minute. The people were very nice.

Somewhat expensive.. This is however one of the classiest motels I've stayed at. Gorgeous rooms with a tad of retro touch to them. Lovely beds, wooden floors instead of those nasty carpets that most places tend to have, nice photographs on the walls instead of tacky artwork, good size flatscreen, a beautiful bathroom... I'd have no problem living here full time, haha!

The pool area was nice but the pool itself looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Lots of flower petals and leaves were floating about and it didn't look very welcoming. Overall a lovely stay, but the pool dragged it down a little bit.

This little motel across the street from Nobu Malibu was a real surprise. Clean ,efficient and convenient. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it didn't kill our wallets. Keep it in mind. Good for last minute bookings. Enjoy!

Room Tip: top floor, facing west. best room in the house.

Horrible service they argue with you instead of helping you, dirty rooms with stained old sheets, bugs in the room, No closet or drawers, no privacy because the blinds are broken and missing pieces and the noise is unbearable! I took pictures of all of this to prove it!!! The worst $200 ever spent. Will NEVER stay there again!!!!!!

With the emergence of online review sites everyone shares opinions, positive and negative, true or false, useful or just rants - and for a lot of businesses these reviews have a significant impact on the bottom line. As a guest of the most affordable motel in Malibu, CA I would like to set the record straight for the "M" personally.

The M is within swimming distance of the pier, walking distance to Malibu's excellent restaurants and shops, steps to the finest beaches and trails in the world - at a price not offered anywhere else in Malibu or Santa Monica (believe me, I've looked).

I regret that some guests had such a negative first impression of the beautiful Motel that is the M. They have been making accommodations accordingly, and have addressed many of the issues reviewers have commented on, specifically soundproofing of guest rooms and soft renovations in rooms and public spaces.

I would recommend the "M" to any patron traveling North or South on the PCH to stop by. If you are trying to stay in Los Angeles, this is the spot financially. It's in a safe location, (Malibu has almost 0 crime rate), even though the rates are what some quoted as high - it is Malibu. And it is a motel. Two things that typically don't mix. So while you try to save that extra $30 somewhere else in LA, you'll be trading your safety for air conditioning. That sounds reasonable. There is a plaza within 30 seconds of the motel with your average whole foods grocery style store, a delicious pizza place, and a California cuisine style restaurant - all catering to something for someone. The pier and Zuma beach are .5 miles away (Public Access to beach is located next to Nobu). Banks & Walgreens are a mile North of the motel, while the Santa Monica boardwalk is about 5 miles away. They also have a pool which is not offered anywhere else in Malibu.

All in all, if you need somewhere to stay in Los Angeles with basic accommodations and free wifi & parking (rarity in LA) in a safe and trustworthy location - pay the piper. Give them a chance, and while reviewing always remember how people would review YOUR home.

& if you do stay, make sure to check out the trail overlooking the ocean at the back of the complex. There are picnic tables and a view that cannot be bought.

Hope this helps,
Dana
