“Huh? What just happened?”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

My wife and I were in Malibu with some friends and decided to head to Mr Chow's. We have been to the restaurant in Beverly Hills and we know that the reputation is for a great meal and excellent service......

Well, the meal was very good......

But the service was extremely confusing. A simple request for more of their hot sauce was met with "we cannot give you more hot sauce---Mr Chow, rules." What?

Zachary was the waiter---maybe he was having a bad day, maybe terrible. Anyhow, i have no need for another visit.

There are so many places to experience in Malibu, no reason to risk one on Mr Chow.

“Duck!”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

We finally made it to this new restaurant with a family birthday group of nine. The service was impeccable in a brisk, fresh atmosphere. Several in our group noticed the Beijing duck being served at other tables and were interested in trying it. Our waiter told us that due to the 45 minute prep time we should have it for our third course. The family style servings were generous and we were all quite content after our second course. It was entertaining to have the duck carved at the table and we all anticipated a delicious and unique completion of our meal. Imagine our surprise when a second carved duck (because of our group size) was brought out from the kitchen! Granted, it was our fault for not paying attention to the menu or doing a bit of research ahead of time, but it was quite shocking to get a bill that included $612 worth of Beijing duck ($68/person before tax/tip)...over doubling our check. Although it was a great meal at a beautiful restaurant we left with the feeling of being taken advantage of. We think it would have been very reasonable of the waiter (who was the most aware of how much food was going to be served at the table) to have at least given an option for partial servings. We aren't a group of football players, just three generations of foodies. That said, my husband and I (hosts of the big group) will try Mr. Chow again for a date night...we just won't be having any Beijing duck.

“Not special in any way.”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Had dinner recently at this newly opened outpost of what has become a chain. Good, friendly service but the food was incredibly unmemorable. I don't mean bad -- in face everything was well prepared and presented. It was just so, well, unremarkable.

“As good as it gets.”
Reviewed February 16, 2013 via mobile

Hooray. Finally a class act in Malibu. Went on a Saturday night, early with a party of five. Let the waiter order for us and it was wonderful. Just a bit over 400 for the 5 without alcohol. Room is a little crowded but it adds to the atmosphere. Welcome to an area that is very short on good dining.

“great!”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

great service...nice energy, BUT would however like to see a better menu selection....perhaps a broader selection...it's a bit limited....and kind of a boring menu....

otherwise, welcome to the neighborhood!
