We went to dinner early Sunday night to enjoy the sunset and have a pleasant dinner. We sat at a table for 4 at the window overlooking the beach and the ocean. At 5:44 as promised the sun began its daily setting ritual. The sky light up in all of its magnificent pallet, reds, yellows, and blues (translates when mixed to sunset colors for non-painters). We split the spinach salad asking for 1/2 the usual dressing. It was nicely prepared at our table by our waiting person. I had the prime rib, cooked as I asked for and like and my wife had her favorite entree. All in all a very pleasant experience and nice way to end the weekend. If I had to share any negatives it would be the noise level seemed louder that I have experienced in the past.

The restaurant was very good and the service was great. These were all expected and were all delivered. The beach setting and the setting sun were spectacular. This isn't a 'value' restaurant but it does provide an excellent meal.

I would highly recommend the restaurant for a romantic evening. Request a table by the window. The beach is lighted and the watching the waves roll in while eating dinner is so relaxing. All the fish is fresh and prepared in many different ways. The staff went out of their way to make suggestions.

Remember the fantastic Chart House from the good old days in Westwood? Forget it! Remember the Chart House in Ventura from 2002 which was SO fantastic (seriously) that they shuttered the place to put in an "Everything Fried" place to kill the population with cholesterol if poison farming fumes & Monsanto don't get you first? Well. . . with Chart House on Pacific Coast Highway being something we pass routinely we thought it would be a great place to meet with our elderly relative and other family for lunch on Sunday. Was this Chart House ever good. . . or does it follow the if its on the water with a view everything else about a restaurant will be lousy. The later, clearly. The parking was easy---you didn't even HAVE to valet, though the valet charge was cheap $4.00. The views were fantastic. The booth seating was good even though we had an elderly person someone who needed assistance going from the bathrooms which---at least at the time---were clean and nice. Servers and employees helpful and nice. BUT, the food was positively dreadful. Worse than the review from earlier in January which we wish we'd read. My guess is that quality of ingredients purchased is just lousy and chef really is clueless. Salads. . . which looked so nice tossed at the table? Forget it. My tossed chopped salad, all the ingredients were from. . . days ago? Nothing had a taste, only the vinegrette. Soup sampler - so ALL the soups - so bad that relative couldn't eat it. She said the soups tasted like there was some sort of household liquid cleanser in the broth of the onion soup (a joke, like something made by a child), the lobster bisque (dreadful) and the clam chowder (campbells with cleaning fluid added). In retrospect server was honest: when we asked what was good/better between a few things---she stated: "many people order that," . . . she didn't say anything was good, which nothing was. Terrible bread "fresh out of the oven" NO flavor, and butter served with it that was. . . weird and tasteless. Same butter for the baked potato. Cheese served with baked potato was purportedly cheddar. . . from where, WallMart? Asian Green Beans greasy and served cold. . . but by this point we knew it was hopeless so we didn't complain. . . no one had anything decent on their plate. My fish. . ."tilapia" was the most plain who knows what. . . no taste AT ALL, not the fish or the preparation, and ridiculously expensive. And the ginger flavored rice with it? How do you ruin rice. . . they did. Big hunks of what must have been real ginger, just thrown into it, it truly was not even edible. We had the Mud Pie and it was fine. . . how do you ruin ice cream? You can't. The prices are steep and the food was positively dreadful, and our server saw the Soup Sampler pretty much untouched and took it off the bill. Will never return and will never go anywhere without reading Trip Advisor first.
