stopped for lunch on a saturday afternoon without a reservation. we were warmly greeted by hostess who informed us the wait would be 20-30 minutes, which we agreed to wait, and we stated a window table, while preferable, was not necessary. as we waited for a table, i wandered into the dining area and noticed at least one third of all the tables were empty, including several that were immediately adjacent to the back wall near the hostess station. after almost 30 minutes, we were seated at one of these tables, which had been unoccupied our entire wait. our waiter was pleasant and informative describing the specials of the day. we ordered our food and then ordered drinks while we waited. the drinks came promptly, the food not so much. we waited over thirty additional minutes for our food, and we're talking three sandwich and one salad order. the waiter apologized, stating the kitchen had gotten "backed up." a group of three were seated next to us, and i couldn't help but notice that two of their three orders were sent back to the kitchen. at the end of the meal, we all agreed our food was at best, so-so - nothing remarkable or really worth ordering again. overall, the views of the ocean make this a desireable location, but the food was mediocre enough to likely prompt us to not bother again.

We're always amazed that there are so ew places to eat along the coastline. This place is predictable in dining but we go for the view.

How else can one describe this restaurant with beautiful panoramic view of the ocean. Location is perfect: Malibu. Most of the time I come here at sunset time. It is spectacular.I like that Chart house restaurants have similar menu. I always know what to expect there. I tried a lot of different dishes but I have my favorite dishes: Crab stuffed mushrooms and and Baked stuffed shrimp. It is so wonderful to sip wine and watch the ocean. Very romantic and elegant. I like valet parking too. Prices are reasonable.

We dined at The Chart House this past weekend with several business associates and their wives’ on a recent business trip to L.A... We ate there on a Saturday night at 7pm. Our window table was ready when we arrive and the night was perfect from that point on. The restaurant welcomed us at the valet as well as the hostess waiting at door. We had a variety of selections from the menu, all were superbly presented and the meals were excellent. We also enjoyed several bottles of great chardonnay and a merlot from their excellent wine list. The cappuccino and desserts were a spectacular finishing touch for the evening. The staff was extremely proficient and professional. All the restaurant staff could not have been more polite and friendly throughout the night. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and we did not feel cramped but rather cozy with the ability to have good conversation. We have placed the Chart House on our "definite return list” for our next visit to Los Angeles. We highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a 1st Class evening on the town in the L.A. area. (It's a bit of a drive but well worth it)

Four of us visited Dec 26, 2012. Very reasonable happy hour prices and well-structured cocktails. Beautiful window table, excellent entrees (each of us ordered a different entree), very informed wait staff and superb atmosphere--our first return visit in many years, wish we lived closer.
