Our first night in Malibu the hotel recommended La Costa Mission. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was wonderful (queso fundido, guacamole, and tacos al pastor), the atmosphere was very nice, but the service was unbeatable. Half way through our meal, our server went on break. She pointed out the server who would take over, and he promptly came over to check on us. Dessert time came and we each ordered a dessert (coconut pie for my wife, and churros for me). They were out of churros. Our server brought a house speciality - plantain crepas with home made caramel sauce - and suggested I give it a try. One bite, and I never thought of the churros again. Great place!

The menu selection is small, unlike your typical run of the mill Mexican restaurant. This is appropriate because this is no ordinary Mexican restaurant. If you are anywhere in the area and enjoy excellent Mexican food with a special twist on the standard tacos, quesadillas, guacamole, etc, you have to come here.

If you're seeking authentic Mexican food with complex mole sauces, this is the place. Wonderfully fresh and perfectly prepared food, from a variety of ceviches to delicately prepared fish to bold pork empanadas. We enjoyed an incredible "Like Water for Chocolate" menu on Valentine's Day that surpassed some of the meals we've enjoyed in Mexico. The real bonus to dining here is the graciousness of the staff and the lovely old-hacienda style setting. Everyone is extremely welcoming and accommodating.
