“Practically Perfect in Every Way!”
Reviewed October 15, 2011

We took a night to ourselves to enjoy Malibu at it's best and boy did we ever. The Malibu Beach Inn is a prime example of how a hotel should operate. They check you in with cold drinks, take you personally to your room, and offer to make local reservations for you. The room was pristine and lovely with one of the best views of the ocean possible. It was newly refurnished with all the upscale California charms one could hope for. We decided to cancel our dinner reservations at local restaurant and eat dinner at the hotel instead. BEST DECISION! We ate a gourmet feast which was worth every dollar right on the outdoor balcony overlooking the beach with our own personal heater. When it was unfortunately time to leave, they left us with two water bottles in our car for the trip home! A perfect ending! We cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the ocean on the second floor, not one with a horizontal view. Both are nice b...

The view from our room is THE best ocean view we've ever experienced! If you got any closer you'd be in the ocean. The room was exceptionally clean, service great with nice little touches such as coffee and cookies in the lobby. The butler service on the beach was great (if not a little pricey, but what can you expect for such an amazing location)
We'd have no problems returning to this great place. Highly recommended!

We stayed at the Malibu Beach Inn for four nights from September 22 to 26, in room 210. This room had an ocean view balcony with a queen size bed.

For us, the wow factor was very high staying at this boutique hotel. First of all, the views of the ocean are jaw-dropping because the hotel is pretty much sitting right on the water! All of the staff were impressively polite, friendly, and professional. And that did not waiver during our entire stay.

The hand written note welcoming us to the hotel was an incredibly nice touch! And so was the goody bag that invited us to enjoy a complimentary movie night, complete with popcorn, bottled water and other treats. Furthermore, a tiny box of chocolates greeted us every night with evening turn-down service.

The bed was very comfortable, the linens were first-class, and the decor of the hotel was contemporary chic. I would have attached photos of our room and the incredible views from our balcony except we left our camera on the plane. :(

And the piece-de-la-resistance was the fireplace right off the balcony. Every evening we dimmed the lights, opened the patio door and listened to the sounds of the ocean waves while cozying up to the fireplace. It was truly a slice of heaven! Making it impossible to believe that all of the calamity and craziness of L.A. is only a few miles up the PCH.

The hotel itself sits on Carbon Beach, also known as Billionaire's Beach. So, every morning I walked on a beautiful strip of sand that is home to at least three well-known billionaires. Where else is that possible? Also, the Malibu pier is close-by and worth a visit as well.

Finally, on our day of departure, in addition to a copy of the L.A. Times, was a copy of the provincial newspaper from our home province! Again, an impressively nice touch!

We look forward to visiting this hotel again and again!

Room Tip: Go with the full ocean view rooms.

I have been meaning to write this review for years. I visited after their renovation and this place is fantastic. It is in a great location right on the water and walking distance from the Malibu Pier. Our room was beautifully designed and sitting on the balcony and listening to the waves was pure bliss. Don't be scared of the price because it's worth every penny.

Room Tip: Get one facing the ocean!

This is the second time I have stayed at MBI, and it was every bit as good as I remembered. The King Beach suite wasn't large but had a decent balcony and is right over the beach, with the surf crashing just a few feet away.

The beach is the single reason to stay ay MBI. If you're not into beaches, and don't want to hear the waves all night long, you won't like it.

If you ignore the beach, then you're right on a fairly busy road, in good-but-not-great rooms, at an exorbitant price. So, you've got to like beaches.

Hotel service is decent, and the food is very good.

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the MBI and look forward to our next visit. We used the hotel as a home base for the Nautica Malibu Triathlon this past weekend and I will never stay anywhere else for the race. They really catered to the athletes including putting out food and coffee super early in the morning the day of the race, holding a reception the night before the race and having a special menu of healthy items in honor of the race. These kinds of touches speak to the overall level of service we experienced throughout the stay. Service was always prompt and friendly from the front door and valet to the dining room and spa. Housekeeping did an excellent job despite a room completely over-run by triathlon equipment for two people (next time we will get a suite).

One of the things we miss most about CA living in NYC now is the sound of the ocean and the moment you open the sliding door to your balcony it is hard not to relax as the Pacific crashes against the rocks and beach below. We slept with the doors open every night and loved it. We did not have any issues with road noise, especially because the ocean drowned everything out. The bed is very comfortable and the mini-bar was well-stocked. The bathroom was small bu well-appointed with a large shower and nice Molten & Brown products. My only small gripe (and easily remedied) is that no hotel that charges MBI's prices should have Coffeemate for the in-room coffee maker. There should be little Half&Half containers or, if they are trying to be more environmentally sound, a small container of milk/cream in the refrigerator. Coffeemate is tacky synthetic nastiness.

The best meal we had at the restaurant was lunch, though dinner was nice too. They have a nice though small selection of CA wine producers, some of which are more off the beaten path. The Cielo Cabernet by the glass they have right now is excellent. Again, the service beat everything and actually outshined the food.

I had a nice massage with the same incredible view of the ocean in their small spa suite. I can't say too much because I was so sore at that point from the race that even the gentlest massage was painful.

We will definitely be back. Malibu is a magical place that feels words away from the rest of the greater LA area. I can't wait for next year's race and staying here again, if not sooner.
