This little-known preserve is a wonderful place to renew your inner peace. The winding boardwalk makes it easy for anyone to enjoy, including your canine best friend. I pause at the overlooks to enjoy the vista of Morro Bay and the sand spit that separates it from the ocean. If you go on the early side of the morning or at sunset, you stand a chance of seeing lots of bunnies and birds, even a coyote. If you happen to find this place, keep it a secret!

A nice walk that is wheelstair accesible. There are several entrance points so remember which one you start from. Be sure to bring you camera and binoculars with you. The views are beautiful and there are lots of birds to see. The pygmy oaks hanging moss are really pretty. The views of the bay and the surrounding hills is beautiful.

Can't imagine why anyone would go there! Plants are mostly dying and saw very few birds nearby. With strong binoculars we could see some geese in the distance on the estuary. We were the only tourists; there are a total of 6 spaces to park,2 of which are handicapped. That should have been the first clue....

Just park at the dead end of 16th St off Santa Ysabel and enjoy. There is a nice even boardwalk that wanders through the Pigmee Oaks, with fab views of the estuary and dunes, clear over to Morro Bay. Great nature and bird watching!

We made a short stop at the Elfin Forest Preserve and it was well worth it. There are very well constructed and handicapped accessible boardwalks throughout the Elfin Forest that lead out to viewing points of the Morro Bay estuary. We saw lots of birds, including a turkey vulture, and the elfin oak trees were spread throughout the preserve. The signage explains the life of the Chumash indians who lived in the area thousands of years ago and other signage also shows how the estuary is shrinking in size due to sedimentation. The walking in the preserve is gentle and this preserve is a great short visit for passerby of any age.
