it was a windy day but this didn't stop us from enjoying some amazing scenery, tide pools and rock formations carved by wind and water.
The trail is an easy 2.38 miles each way but has benches and picnic tables to rest or just enjoy the ocean.
There's free parking and a restroom on the trail.
It's a must do activity while in the area.

The Bluff Trail at Montana De Oro is absolutely spectacular. It is a natural wonder with the up lifting of strata, trail along the ocean bluffs, beach trail down below, wild animals, birds, flowers in the spring and at times migrating whales. There is a blow hole during high tides on one of the points, too. Nice walk with a round trip of about 4 miles on just the main trail.
Free & with parking!!!

Be sure to go when the tide is low!! So many incredible tide pools teeming with life. Would be a great place for elementary school kids and up to go exploring.

Stunning views! There is a parking lot just past Spooner Cove that has bathrooms. A tiny lot at Badger Trail trailhead and a larger one at the very end of Pecho Valley Road. The one at the end has bathrooms and a picnic table, and is the trailhead for a few different trails including Point Buchon, Bluff Trail and Coon Creek Trail. There are many entrances for the same trail as they intersect with each other and Pecho Valley Road. Google Maps has a good view of them, though I had no reception past the parking lot of Badger Trail so it might be a good idea to take screen shots of any maps you may need.

The trails are well maintained and there is little elevation gain. Definitely stroller-friendly though there is not much shade to be found. From Bluff trail and along the cliffs, there are many coves and little trails down to explore tide pools. Benches and a few picnic tables are found along the shores. We found the parking lots were busiest on weekends and around sunset.

I drove to Los Osos to hike the Point Buchon trail. It was beautiful, but I preferred the bluff trail more because it’s equally as gorgeous, and you’re able to get closer to the cliff edges for better views/photography shots. It’s also open late, so you can explore other trails in the area and/or stay for a beautiful sunset.
