This is a terrific state park, but it is undergoing maintenance work from Nov 2013 until an unspecified date which may be in December 2014.

On Jan 7 we went to the park and found that the Bluff Trail area is completely closed. I was unable to get definite information from workers in the park about schedule. My impression is that the trail may be open on certain time periods around holidays.

There are many other mountain trails in the park that are open, but don't plan your trip around the Bluff Trail without getting information first about dates of openings and closures.

Thank Tecolate

Do not expect to take your pooch on the trails around the park. 90% of the trails do NOT allow pets; even leashed pets. There is only one place; Spooner Cove that allows dogs on leash. This cove has a very rocky beach and because it is a cove, you're down in a "pit" and therefore can't see any vistas or expanses of the ocean. I saw some patrollers that didn't get out of their vehicles, so you could take your chances I guess. But there are a lot of horses and people with signs everywhere saying no pets. Without a pet, it is an awesome place to watch the sunset; either up on top of the mountain or hiking down to the beach. Because of the pet policy I am rating this average. But for hiking and otherwise, it would be excellent.

My husband and I came upon this location while driving around Morro Bay then to Los Osos/Baywood. Decided to take a road that was just AMAZING! The drive was like you were in the mountains entering a forest but also a view of the ocean. We found that place 3 years ago and go back everytime we visit Morro Bay on vacation. They have hiking, biking and walking trails as well. A must do even if it's just one time.

Easy to get to. Free. Not too challenging for those who aren't into heavy-duty hiking. Beaches, hills, trees, wandering paths, biking, hiking, horseback riding. Or just ambling along gazing at the spectacular Pacific Ocean and jagged rock formations. Perfect for photographers.

Breathtakingly spectacular pristine coastline, reaching up to the mountains. Epic for surfing, mountain biking, picnicking, camping, hiking, etc. Just go see it!
