I've had many delicious meals at La Palapa, and the service is always great even during the busier times. The food does take a little time, but the wait is worth it. Chips and salsa are great, and if you get a window seat near the fireplace it makes for a nice romantic setting.

I forget the name but there's a chorizo cheese appatizer that is amazing, and I'd recomend it to everyone. Their guac is also very fresh and delicious.

Excellent Mexican food! We decided on takeout from La Palapa after enjoying the complimentary chips, salsa and wine happy hour in the bar, included with our stay at the Baywood Inn, and went across the street to enjoy the view of the bay while we dined at a picnic table- highly recommend:) Everything was fresh and flavorful, portions were large and oh so good! If we're ever back in this area we will definitely be stopping by!

This is our second favorite Mexican restaurant in Los Osos. La Palapa has a wide variety of flavors on their menu, wonderful salads and good seafood. We judge Mexican restaurants on their salsa, and this one lacks. Everything else is excellent.

We have been eating here since moving to the area 5 years ago. We love the special Mexican spice blends and everything we have tried is excellent. The recipes are family treasures and tightly controlled in the kitchen by Mama. The service can be slow depending on the time of day and the crowd. The food is always worth the wait. Our favorites for lunch are chile relleno, albondigas, pasole and carnitas. The owner Jose and his sister Monica are usually there and are fun and friendly always trying to please. The prices are higher than other Mexican restaurants in the area but the food is exceptional and it is a local hangout. We will need much more time to try out other menu items we have not tried out yet. This is our favorite place in the Baywood neighborhood.

We were only staying in Los Osos for one night and after the sweetness of a one year old’s birthday party we were ready for something hot, hardy, and good. La Palapa was a great place to find what we wanted. After cocktails on our hotel patio we headed across the street and were seated just ahead of a party of 10 and the waitress was nice enough to take our order first. The setting is very nice, with wooden tables and chairs giving the place a clean line look. The place filled up pretty fast but the service was solid, though sometimes slow, and they seemed under staffed. Only wine and beer is served here and there is a cute bar on the right side as you come in. We started with a large draft each and at $7 this is a great buy. Cold, with a great head, this is a huge glass of beer and one is all you need. Next I had the soup of the day posole. It was a great starter and even though they only served a cup of it, it came with a side of chopped cabbage, onions, and lemons just like I make at home. My husband had the green enchiladas and I had the whole tilapia fish. The food was good for the most part, my fish was delicious but slightly over cooked but the serving was very generous and we could have easily shared it. Hubby’s enchiladas were very tasty stuffed with chili Verde, covered with a rich green sauce. The salsa was mediocre, as were the chips. They served water in huge quart canning jars which was charming. Bill for dinner for two $55.
