Owner description: Passionately focused on Rhône varieties, Andrew Murray has consistently crafted highly acclaimed red wines and white wines in the Santa Ynez Valley for 20 years. His Viogniers, single-vineyard Syrahs, and blends led Robert Parker, Jr. to refer to AMV as, “…one of the shining stars in the Santa Barbara firmament.”

“Fabulous wines made here”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

The blends they had were fabulous. They blended just about everything they can grow themselves including melbec. I bought a few bottles, will be enjoying them soon. The lady who served was very friendly and educated my wife and I about all their wines. it was worth driving from Santa barbara to Los Olivos.

“This wine goes to ELEVEN!”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

I stopped in at the Andrew Murray tasting room on a busy, July Monday. It was nice to get the place to myself for a few minutes to discuss the wines I was drinking there.

While the tasting room is about the total opposite of my favorites, which are more like barns (Alma Rosa, Foxen) with an outdoorsy feel, the air-conditioning was welcomed on a hot summer day in the valley.

They have 2 tasting choices, 5 or 8 wines for $10 or $15. I did the 8 wines, but really wouldn't recommend it, as my favorite wines were all in the cheaper tasting. The other reds were good, but seemed to need some time.

What I liked was that they had 2 white blends, which I can't really remember seeing anywhere in SB. The RGB and the Eleven Unplugged were nice and a must on any hot day. I also liked the Eleven Red, which is a Cab Sauv/ Cab Franc blend. The Elevens are influenced by Nigel's amps in the movie Spinal Tap.

But a word of warning, all 8 wines they were featuring are limited supply. They did have a bottle of their larger production Syrah for comparison, but you have to ask.

“They need help”
Reviewed June 4, 2012

Andrew Murray 2901 Grand Ave Ste A. We brought a 2-4-1 coupon from the internet. The first thing you will notice when entering this tasting room is the scented candles. Small tasting room. If you are like me, that will linger thru your wine tasting and degrade the experience. The crew there could use a bit of refresher on wines and service. The place in general could benefit from a consultant to help them “get in shape”. A bit of pressure to get out, sans purchase. Why bother?

“High expectations over time”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

Walk in the door and the place screams "high tech." Look at the tasting list, and most of the space is used talking about technique and tech. - Andrew Murray is a young wine maker that I expect to continue improving (like a fine wine) over time: His wines are very good (some are excellent) - e.g., he has several Syrrahs that could not be mistaken for each other, they have been crafted so distinctly.

One warning <sigh>: The bathroom door (outside of the actual wine shop) gets jammed. One in our party got stuck there for half an hour and had a bit of a claustrophobic panic attack at not being able to get out or rouse attention. Take your cell phone with you to the can! :)

“Los Olivos winery”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

Spinal tap fans will smile at the "eleven" wines. Edgy and contemporary decor in a small los Olivos tasting room. Syrah fans will appreciate the offerings, while the Esperance red blend will grab even veteran tasters. The Sanglier GSM Rose offers one of the areas better blush wines. Tracy was pleasant and knowledgeable.
