Espanas is not all the hype people make of it. The food is truly just OK. The beans taste canned, the rice is bland, and it's all way overpriced. The draw is that it is unfortunately the only "fancy" restaurant in town, even if it is in need of a serious interior make-over, and it does have full bar service. After a couple of over-priced drinks, I guess anyone might say the food is great when it really isn't. If you want really good (and authentic) Mexican food at a much better price - go to El Rodeo. You can get a delicious steak at a fraction of the cost at numerous places around town - 6th Street Diner or Black Bear. You'll get better and friendlier service anywhere else you go, as the servers at Espanas definitely could use some lessons on friendly customer service. Also, my experience is the wait is way too long at Espanas - and there were several waiters and only a few table. Getting a water glass re-filled is often near impossible. Go anywhere else: M&M, Black Bear, El Rodeo, 6th Street - you'll get better service, better food, and a bill half the price!
