Our Anniversary Vacation

Before I tell you all of the wonderful pros, I'm going to tell you the cons, so that there are no surprises when you arrive at the hotel. First, it is a converted apartment building. Judging from the look of the architecture, I say it was built around 1950-1955. Because it is an older building, it needs a lot of work, which the staff has been tending to. Some of the rooms still have original fixtures that need replacing, new faucets that still need caulking, and air conditioning units that still need to be completely sealed. It is also not fully handicap accessible - there are a lot of stairs and no elevator, so take all of this into consideration when you are booking your Hollywood stay. I myself am handicapped (cane dependent), but I was able to make my way around the hotel if I took it slow. Now, all that being said, let me tell you the pros: the staff is Outstanding, with a capital "O." We were welcomed with a champagne greeting and our luggage was taken to our room. Check-in was a breeze. There's a list of snacks that are complimentary - not cheap snacks, either. We're talking full-size Snickers, M&Ms, Reese's Peanut Butter cups, Lay's potato chips, and a dozen more. There is also a 24-hour Coca-Cola machine, soft serve ice cream and Dole whip during the day, and poolside ice pops. The pool itself is heated and open 24-hours (just be sure to keep quiet during sleepy hours). Laundry is also complimentary - they will clean your clothes and wrap them up with a lovely sprig of lavender. Ours was waiting on our bed when we got back from our daily travels. Bed is firm and comfortable. TV is flat-screen with multiple HBO channels. And for you letter-writers out there, this hotel has stationery! What a joy - it's becoming rarer and rarer these days to find hotels that still have their own stationery. They also offer complimentary buffet breakfast - hot and cold cereal, bread to make toast, scones, croissants, butter, jam, peanut butter, yogurt, juices, tea, and coffee. It was nice having a bowl of oatmeal, followed by a peanut butter sandwich with a bag of potato chips from the snack menu! A great shout-out to Oliver, who remembered our trip itinerary even though we had only mentioned it once to him in passing. Another plus when you stay at this hotel is access to the famed Magic Castle - as long as you book directly with the hotel and not a third-party site, you can make dinner or brunch reservations at the Castle. We celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Magic Castle, thanks to Maddie and Marzia, who made our reservations. I highly recommend this hotel - it's right up with other classy boutique hotels like Snug Harbor Inn on Catalina. We're already getting ready to book our return trip to Magic Castle Hotel. Enjoy!

The Magic Castle Hotel exceeded all my expectations. The staff were friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. The service was wonderful and the vibe very relaxed. We are a family of five and my three boys absolutely loved our stay. We have stayed in other hotels in LA but I would always return to the Magic Castle from now on, with or without my family. Absolutely awesome!

We recently stayed at the Magic Castle for 4 nights. It is not the flashiest place, but it had plenty of space, was clean and a great location. Our children loved the unlimited snacks and pool. The staff were all lovely and nothing was a drama. They even washed and dried our laundry for us, and delivered it back in a nicely wrapped package. There was a bit of road noise, but we were at the front of the hotel.

We had made a reservation to stay at Magic Castle Hotel through Expedia. We arrived early to check-in and were surprised to learn that the hotel had cancelled our reservation. They claimed that some rooms were out of commission and that they had notified us and Expedia of this change a few days prior. This was not true. We never received anything from either Magic Castle Hotel or Expedia.

At first, we were not too upset because they said we would get a full refund from Expedia, and they had rebooked us at another comparable hotel which they would pay for. However, this was not true either. The hotel they put us in was a much lower rated hotel. The room also seemed dated and smelled, but with a busy day ahead of us and since we were staying only one night we decided to stick it out. Bad decision! When we returned to our room in the evening, we discovered how disgusting and filthy the room actually was. There were stains on the floors, walls and furniture, the shower was moldy, and the sink fully clogged.

To add insult to injury, we never received a refund from Expedia. After speaking to Expedia, they said the hotel was in fact "over sold out" not “out of commission”. We finally received our refund after we showed Expedia the proof of the reservation that Magic Castle Hotel made for us at the other hotel.

We are not the type of people to write reviews, in fact this is our first, but felt compelled to warn others of our experience with Magic Castle Hotel.

Into day 2 of our 5 day stay and love this place more every day. Quirky and fun with unparalleled customer service, never experienced before. From front desk and check in, to General Manager, to Housekeeping, every staff member has displayed exceptional service and joy at making our stay memorable and remarkable.

Haven’t even mentioned the brekkie, treats and soft drink whenever you desire, the laundry delivered to your room for free, the brilliant location and comfy home-like rooms. Thank you Darren and your fab team. Be back for sure. Special mention to the amazing Megan and Mitch - the dynamic duo!!
