Magic Castle Hotel
Ranked #2 of 353 Hotels in Los Angeles
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 14, 2011

The staff is excellent, so are the free minibar. But the rooms are worn out and all of the hotell needs an upgrade. Why is this hotell at a number one ranking in LA? It does not deserve it just because of the nice people who work there!

Thank you for writing your review. I was glad you to see you voted 5 out of 5 on both service and cleanliness. You asked why we were #1. We are not always #1 but we are very proud of our high ranking. We provide our guests with an unusually high level of guest service and many feel compelled to write about it when they leave. We've also been pretty consistent in doing this over the years.

In terms of the hotel seeming worn down to you, we do have some rooms that are in need of renovation. This renovation is underway. I would recommend to any TripAdvisor reader who would book our hotel, to simply ask for a newer room and we'll do everything possible to make it happen. It's important to us that TripAdvisor readers understand the type of hotel we are. We're all about large rooms, value, and personal service. We have seven "Single" rooms, which are quite small, but the rest are very large One and Two Bedroom Suites with full kitchens.
The more questions TripAdvisor readers ask before their stay, the less likely they'll be disappointed. Please ask questions. Feel free to ask for me, Darren Ross.

Our goal is to give you such a great experience that you keep coming back.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write.

This hotel was the best one we stayed in on our honeymoon. The staff were fantastic and so helpful and friendly. The location was excellent, about 2 or 3 mins away from Hollywood Boulevard and the Magic Castle is actually were the members of the magic circle perform ie Penn and Teller and David Copperfield etc have performed there. You have to be a member only but if you stay in the hotel and book early and bring a cocktail dress/ smart suit they will book you in for a night of entertainment. We didnt know about that so we couldnt do that.
The hotel was just around the corner from the "meet the parents" house and other stars houses.
The pool was nice, the complimentary breakfast was great and the staff were second to none. We got there at 1.30am after a long flight and the guy on reception greeted us with a big smile and offered to help with our bags.
The nearest restaurant is the japenese at the top of the hill, in which the hotel provided a free shuttle to the top and the restaurant was amazing, overlooking Los Angeles with fabulous views. The restaurant was a little pricey but the food and service was unbelievable and as it was our last night on honeymoon we splashed out and had a great night. There is also a pagoda bar in the open air that also looked over the city that was all lit up and beautiful. We had a cocktail there then the restaurants shuttle dropped us back at the hotel. Perfect!

On june 4,2011 i had a champagne party at the magic castle and the staff was wonderful. they where extremely generous to myself and my guest visiting me. The customer service was outstanding and the hotel was very quiet and clean. I will return and make sure to recommend all my friends and family to stay at this hotel. Thank you to all the staff that made me visit perfect!! keep the good work up.

My family and I were excited about staying here..we saw good reviews overall. The front desk was very friendly and helpful upon arrival. The place is older..dated in appearance with a few attempts at modernizing the decor...example being the lobby which you have to go through to get to your room. I asked how old the place
was..staff said it was an apartment complex built in the sixties but
rennovated to be apartments in the
Seventies. Upon entering our "suite" it
was a fairly sizable accomodation but did look like a seventies apartment with attempts at trying to modernize it. The couch was worn and musty and the carpet appeared dingy and stained.
After settling in later and upon closer
inspection, we questioned how clean the
bathroom actually was. There was hair on
the sink... on the showerwall...and when
we wanted to bathe our child, the tub
seemed to be plugged. Oh..let's not forget
some splatterings on the wall above the
sink. It looked like someone had bloody
gums and splattered it while brushing
their teeth and the paint job was peeling
in the shower.
Icalled the front desk..told him our
situation..there wasnt any maintenace
until tomorrow He would put on some gloves and take a look...why? When I mentioned the hair..he asked if it was mine..you gotta be kidding me! He wasnt rude..but I think he either didn't know what to say at the momemt or management has told staff to play dumb in these situations.
Pros: beds were fairly comfortable. Staff acted professionally.

Our family of 5 just returned from a great 2 nights at the Magic Castle hotel. As others have said, the rooms are a bit dated (ours also had a peeling ceiling in the bathroom and the laminate on the linen closet was sort of melted) but everything is very clean, which is what matters to us. The kids loved going to the lobby with their snack orders and Nick at the front desk gave them some arts and crafts and served popsicles poolside! Our baby's crib had a Johnson and Johnson gift set and rubber duckie, in it, which was a nice touch. (By the way, we stayed in 3 hotels in 6 nights, and this one is the only one that got our request for a crib right!) We enjoyed Sunday Brunch at the Magic Castle, which was a fun experience. Our only negatives: the underground garage is safe but very tight, especially if you have an SUV or minivan. Also, the doors to the suites are pretty thin and flimsy - not heavy metal doors like in most hotels. I just didn't feel the doors or locks were as secure as most places. Overall, it was a great experience, and we will stay there again!

My husband, myself and our three children stayed at the Magic Castle at the tail end of our trip. We travelled with another family and their children and we all loved staying here. Good location, our apartment had everything we needed and the kids loved the free snacks and dvds. The staff were fantastic, we felt so comfortable here it was like a home away from home. Wish we could have stayed longer.

We stayed here last weekend for two nights having read great reviews in tripadvisor. The hotel itself is tiny but in a very central location. It's very expensive for the poor standard of rooms provided. The hotel provides complimentary breakfast in the mornings however it's served in their small reception area. Basically grab and go food. Basic but it did the job. Dont expect anything fancy. We stayed in Ballys in las Vegas prior to this hotel for a lot cheaper rate and it was of superior quality compared to the magic castle. We stated in a suite for five people and we were informed by the receptionist that our room was recently renovated!! When we entered the room we were overcome with the smell of must and dampness. The kitchen stank and there were cobwebs everywhere especially in the kitchen presses hence why they wrap the delf in clingflim. It's also a very noisy location if your traveling with young children. No soundproofing in the hotel. Overall the staff were excellent but I would recommend elsewhere as it's badly in need of a total overhaul. Too expensive for what you get there is better value elsewhere.
