I stay at a lot of Starwood hotels and am impressed by the personal service and attention offered with every stay and the general decor and amenities at this particular Sheraton. It has more character than most hotels in this chain, is a great value for the location, and has a nice gym.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool!

I have stayed at Sheraton Universal a couple times for business. It is a good hotel that is comparable to most Sheraton hotels. The rooms have been updated - though the bathroom seems to be on the smaller side. The lobby includes a pretty good bar and the restaurant on the ground level serves good breakfast.

The hotel has a shuttle for guests to transport them to Universal's theme park and to the entertainment complex, City Walk. However, during my stay this month, the shuttle would stop running at 4:30pm. This meant that I had to walk to City Walk for dinner on a couple evenings, which is about a 15-minute walk that includes going through the Hilton's parking lot and trekking up a hill for a block. The walk is not that bad; however, I still wish there was a quick way to get back to the hotel after a long dinner with colleagues, other than grabbing a taxi.

Dear Guest, we appreciate the time you took to write your review . Thank you for the praise about the bar and the lobby. The Californias restaurant is indeed a great place to grab a delicious bite as well. The shuttle you mentioned is run by Universal Studios , so they do dictate the time the shuttles runs. It is a short walk and there is a very convenient elevator right in front of the hotel that take you up the hill which in turn shortens the walk. We do apologize if you were inconvenienced by the hours of the Shuttle and certainly appreciate the feedback. You are a very valued guest and we do hope to see you again soon.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for only 2 nights and would definitely go back. We were very impressed by the courtious staff and super fast service. The hotel is very clean and updated. The only small negative issue was the air condition which was not powerfull enough for our taste.

This was once the only hotel on top of the San Fernando Valley hill shared with Universal Studios Hollywood. It shows is age a little, compared to the newer Hilton built next door. But apparent refurbishments have kept it relevant. Walking distance to the Studios means you don't really need a car, which costs $18 to park at the hotel daily. The room was very comfortable, not overly spacious. The bathroom was tight: the door swings open on to the toilet, and seated there you can reach the sink and shower faucets with one arm. The Starbucks in-room coffee service was well stocked and a nice touch. A spacious desk in room helps get work done. The delightful bed really made this stay comfortable for sleeping and the rooms were surprisingly quiet even though the 101 Hollywood Freeway is right out the window. The old Hollywood style pool area had plenty of lounge chairs and pool towels. The hotel bar was expensive (cocktails $11-14) unless you hit it for 5pm weekday happy hour. Suggest walking up the hill to CityWalk where a variety of restaurants and bars have much better choice and value. I attended a high school reunion event here and the buffet dinner was scrumptious and service attentive. I would stay here again for another event. Staff were all very nice and friendly.

Dear Guest, thank you for the review and the feedback, it is definitely shared with the team. We are glad to see the room amenity’s were convenient for you and you enjoyed City Walk as well. It is a great way to spend the day. The staff as you mentioned does extend every effort to see that our guest’s are happy throughout their visit and readily available to assist. The rooms are renovated as is the lobby. We are very happy to see you enjoyed and all of your feedback was noted and shared with the managers involved. Please contact us on your next visit so we can set you up in a lovely room for your visit.

I'd rate this hotel as just kind of average... the sleeping rooms are somewhat dated-looking with dark furniture, but they have flat screen TVs and comfortable beds. There's an in-room coffee maker with Starbucks coffee. The room and floor I was on (8th) were nice and quiet on the night I stayed there.

The first floor lobby/bar area really seemed to be hopping when I arrived at around 9:30 or so on a weeknight.

The hotel staff was OK... nothing really notable, good or bad except for the very personable room service delivery man. Room service food for dinner was adequate, but, according to the front desk, ends at 11:00 PM - a potential problem for late arrivals. I didn't like that dinner's room service trays (mine and my neighbors) were still out in the hall the next morning... despite calling for pick up. Nasty.

The hotel is 27.5 miles from the airport if you go up the 405 and then south on I-101.

Overnight self-parking is $18 plus tax in a deck next to the hotel.

I travel a great deal and it’s hard to find a hotel that ranks so high in all categories. One of my favorites!!! The staff is outstanding and always greets me with a smile and goes out of their way to accommodate all my needs. Right next to City walk where you have several dinning venues to chose from. Whether for business or pleasure its one of the best.Nice rooms!

Room Tip: Corner rooms are the best if you want a little more room and comfort.

This hotel is great. We stayed for a week as my father is an SPG Platinum member we had special perks which were staying in club rooms and having access to the club lounge which was great. The hotel staff are friendly. Also when we stayed the hotel was full of camera's and film crews, which left us feeling like film stars.
Thanks Sheraton Universal

Dear nikhils-

Thank you for your week long stay with us! It was great to hear that you had a enjoyable visit and enjoyed the "perks" that come with being an SPG member. Our hotel is known as The Hotel of the Stars and there is a reason....just last night our hotel was seen on the final episode of Desperate Housewives. This was just one of the many filmings that have recently used our beautiful hotel for filming. I'm glad that all the cameras helped you feel like a Star. We can't wait to welcome you back and thank you again for your loyalty to Starwood.

Sincerely,

Randy Player
