Hotel Solaire Los Angeles

Upon attempting to check in I was informed by the front desk that, I would not be able to check in since my father was the one that booked the room for me and since I was not him, and did not have his credit/debit card.I would have to have him fax email over several lengthy documents allowing them to charge his card which was already on file with the hotel. Due to the fact that this hotel has the archaic policy of not charging the card before check in and demanding that the card owner be present. This is the first time I have actually seen this happen at any hotel. And I have been traveling for a good part of a year and a half. There was not a manager I could speak with and the front desk refused to give the documents back after check out, claiming that it was for "internal reasons". These documents did contain a fair amount of personal information. I got to the hotel around 10:30pm and was not even in my room until well past midnight. Leaving me only about four hours to sleep. When I came down to breakfast which was supposed to be at 6:00am nothing was out not even coffee. 6:30 rolls around and there is still no food, at this point I decided that my time would be better spent getting to my destination. While this room is only a 20 min walk from downtown LA, there is pretty much zero in the surrounding neighborhood that you can get food from or of much interest. There is also supposedly a metro station within 5 minuets walking time, but that was never found as well. The rooms where nice, clean and recently renovated. However the TV only got payper-view, porn and infomercials. It also saddens me that there was not a bible in the room and the front desk was never able to provide this despite their sign saying otherwise. Will most likely not stay here again!

This hotel was such a dive that we checked out shortly after arriving and ate the cost of getting our money back for fear of our safety. So just take our money hotel solaire, as a donation to fix up the joint- although, I think it would be cheaper to renovate the surface of the moon then to sink another cent into this pig pen. Photography really is decieving, because this hotel is actually in a terrible/unsafe neighborhood, has filthy tile/grout in the bathrooms, and had bugs crawling up the walls in our room. Pretty sure my first floor "view" was of a street where people meet to deal drugs or smoke crack. Where are all of those photos on your misleading website? Motel 6 is a Ritz Carlton compared to this place. Anyone who thinks this place is a "nice" place to stay clearly doesn't know any better, and is probably part of the bum/druggie culture anyways. I've stayed in hotels in Uganda, Africa that were nicer and safer than this!!! And that is a third world country!

Room Tip: Anywhere but here!

Nice hotel, located downtown but not within walking distance of nightlife and restaurants in the area, the hotel is more suitable for families that arent looking for hotel services. staff very friendly. cozy rooms but despite their size do not meet the standards of good hotels now. Breakfast is not recommended, very low and quality. There is parking it at an advantage and free internet.

This hotel does not need much of a review. In my opinion, this place is not worth it. I honestly believe that the owners are making a concerted effort to make improvements to the property that are very evident, but it's not enough.
Let me start of with the positive aspects of the Hotel Solaire. The entire hotel has been recently renovated and I think they did an okay job. I thought the lobby was the nicest part of the hotel. Free continental breakfast was decent. DirectTV cable in every room was a plus. Convenient parking (only $2 per night). Free wi-fi. Friendly and heplful hotel staff. Electric car chargers in the parking lot
Now, let me tell you what I didn't like. The entire hotel, and especially the rooms, have a really nasty odor. I cant really describe the odor, but it seemed like a mix of chemicals and mold. My room had dirty, matted carpet. The bathroom had stains on the floor. Peeling wallpaper and a broken a/c unit. When I asked to use the gym they took me to a back room that was hidden with no signs directing guest to that location. The gym was an after thought I guess, because it was a sorry excuse of a room with broken equipment. The hotel is located in a terrible neighborhood with only 3 places to eat walking distance (Little Caesars, McDonalds, Food Truck).
Overall, I would say that management is at least making an attempt to improve the hotel. As the hotel sits currently, I would not stay here again. There are better options if you head west across the freeway further into downtown L.A. If you were desperate for a room and it was only for a 1 night, you would be okay. Other than that, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Get a room high up. These rooms were most recently renovated and are rarely used. It's also quie...

This place is crap. Sketchy neighborhood with nothing nearby. Ants in the bathroom. Fleas in the room. No table or chair, just a bed. Included breakfast could have come from a gas station.
It could be worse, at least there were no roaches or shootings ... that I know of.

We stayed at this hotel during the recent refurbishments. We found the room to be lovely, with super nice bedding, a bit flat screen tv and more clean towels than we had ever seen. Although, we had just come from 6 weeks driving around Italy, so anything in the US was going to be more luxuriant than there!

The self made waffles for breakfast are a great idea, and very scrumptious.

The neighbourhood issue: don't walk around the hotel at night OR during the day. Get a cab called from reception. Their "favourite" town car driver will turn up if you dont be specific ask fir a taxi. Lock your door at night (this is LA!). And brush up on your Spanish.

Room Tip: Get reception to call a cab. Don't walk.
