La Quinta Inn & Suites LAX

Its not that the La Quinta in a necessarily bad, but it's not that good either. We found the room ok and the service was at a minimum for L.A. Not what we expected and for the same price you can stay somewhere a lot better. If you are looking for somewhere close to the airport for one night, La Quinta is in a good location. But for any longer, look elsewhere.

We stopped here on a late night arrival at LAX for the night. The shuttle was easy to use. The hotel has a bar/restaurant but we were to late, it was closed. I tried to get a bottle of water but the vending machines only take debit cards. A vending machine in the lobby that takes cash would be a good addition. Breakfast is also included but our flight was to early, it wasn't open yet. The return shuttle was also easy to use.

In summary, all we did was sleep. For that it was perfect. Overall the property is OK. It appears to be old but they have tried to update it a little here and there. For LAX is was relatively clean, cheap, quiet, and comfortable. Frills, no - Useable, yes.

I've rated this motel five stars based on two stays which exceeded my expectations for service, amenities, and value of a motel of it's class. If I were consumer reports, I'd rate this a "best buy"

My family and I stayed one night in December and another in January on layover to and from Mexico. The location was very convenient. It's close to the airport (located next door to the Holiday Inn Express) and we found the free airport shuttle service easy and reliable. The hotel is on the main strip of airport hotels (Century Blvd) which is a 6 or 8 lane main drag which can be congested at some times of the day. We had no problem at all in the evening, early morning or over the weekend getting to and from the airport in about 10 minutes.

Also, regarding the location, there were some late night fast food options available within walking distance which included Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and McDonalds. There was a subway across the street, but it was a very challenging and big street to cross, so I did not consider it. The hotel also offered some room service options. I walked to Taco Bell one night (little less than a block away) at about 11 p.m. The streets were pretty deserted and I noticed the hotel security watched me leave and waited and watched for my safe return. I found this comforting and thanked him.

The hotel is not luxurious, but was EXTREMELY nice for the $72 rate we paid. (I booked on the LaQuinta website - checking often for price reductions as the rates did go down a couple of times and it was easy to cancel and rebook at the lower rate) In fact, the hotel would have been acceptable at $125 - $150. The rooms were recently remodeled, very modern with all standard amenities and very clean. The bathrooms were huge. We found the double rooms very accommodating for our family of four. I have attached photos for your review.

Some of the extra values that I found impressive were the FREE wireless internet, FREE breakfast, Free airport shuttle (mentioned above), secure luggage check room and the Manhattan Beach trolley ($3 RT-tickets sold at hotel lobby desk) which stopped right in front of the hotel. I was able to access the hotel wi-fi easily with both my laptop and my iPhone. It also proved to be a fast connection. The breakfast was far more than continental. It offered fresh made waffles, yogurt with optional granola topping, 3 cold cereal choices, oatmeal, bagels with assorted optional toppings, muffins, apple and orange juice, coffee and tea. That's what I recall off the top of my head, but it seems there were even more selections. The Manhattan Beach trolley presented an awesome opportunity to kill a few hours during our layover. It makes several stops including the beach (where there is also an aquarium), stolling/shopping areas with boutique type stores and small cafes/restaurant and a stop at a beautiful large mall (where you will find an Apple Store, Bath & Body Works, Victoria Secrets and many other upscale mall stores of this type). The secure luggage check area is a room secured by a security guard (no one else has access) and we were able to check out early, spend the day at Manhattan Beach, retrieve our luggage by 4 p.m., take the airport shuttle and catch our 5:30 p.m. flight.

Best of all, I found the staff at this hotel to be very friendly and willing to assist. From the desk clerks to the breakfast team, everyone was extremely nice and helpful.

One last thing I forgot to mention is that the hotel has a pool. It is located above street level on the 3rd or 4th floor (I think). It was a nice size and looked inviting. I believe it is a heated pool, but check with the hotel as we did not use it during our stay.

I would recommend the La Quinta LAX to anyone looking for a quick and easy airport hotel during a layover. I'd also say that it would be a suitable and affordable option for longer stays that needed to be in this particular area of town.

Many long flights to Hawaii and Australia from the East of North America are routed with a stop in LAX. If you are planning to do this, I hope our experience will be a help.

Our journey in January from Toronto to Hawaii had a stop-over in LAX. After being notified of a couple of changes of flights and times by Quantas (because the airlines are saving money they cancel flights and reschedule passengers at will!), it turned out we had a stop-over of 11 hours in LAX, before our morning flight to Honolulu. Rather than waiting in the airport, we decided to take a room and get a few hours shut-eye at the La Quinta.

After arrival at LAX airport at 9:30 p.m. the baggage handlers were slow producing our bags . Then we had a long wait for the hotel shuttle outside the airport, and finally gave up on that. It was very confusing as to where people were supposed to wait for hotel shuttles anyway, and there was sign or no airport staff to assist. Occasionally other hotel shuttles just zoomed past and went on out of the airport without stopping it seemed. After 1/2 hour of watching, walking back and forth on the sidewalk trying to get any information, and no shuttle for La Quinta had even been seen however briefly, we gave up on that! We finally stood in a long lineup to get a taxi, and very few taxis appeared. When a taxi appeared, it often didn't take people from the start of the line. People would run out into the street and grab the door handle as the taxi slowed, and thus commandeer the taxi. Finally we got into a taxi when almost everyone else was gone. All in all we didn't get to the hotel until about midnight. The hotel is only about 10 minutes from the airport.

We had about 6 hours in bed, and so were reasonably rested. The room was quiet and although close to the airport we were not bothered with airplane noise at all. We were back downstairs at 6:30 with our bags. The included breakfast looked good with fresh fruit and waffles, although we just grabbed a coffee and bun, and stood waiting for the hotel shuttle to take us back to the airport. We had to be there at least by 7:30 a.m. for an 8:30 flight. Finally a group of us, all waiting at the hotel entrance for the shuttle, began to plan to order cabs because the hotel shuttle, which is supposed to be every 15-20 minutes, was just not appearing! Two couples had the presence to mind to order a cab the night before, and they had left.

Just as we were all trying to get the desk clerk to order cabs, at about 7:15 or slightly after, the shuttle appeared. The woman driver just said that she was held up in traffic. The net result was our panic on arrival at LAX and we almost didn't make our flight to Honolulu. I have already posted a note on the Los Angeles forum about the lineups at LAX, so I won't repeat it here.

The bottom line: don't depend on the hotel shuttle, and see if you can make other arrangements to get back and forth to the hotel. Also be aware that people in Los Angeles are very rude, and you will have to be aggressive to get a taxi at the airport.

Hotel is in a good location (near rental cars, LAX and freeways). Not much too do within walknig distance though. McDonald's and Taco Bell next door. La Quinta does have a bar with bottled beer but if you are looking for a draft, Holiday Inn is right behind it and they have a bar with multiple taps. Service was good and breakfast was typical free hotel type food. The room was nice and clean, the shower did not have much pressure though. The hotel does offer a free shuttle to and from LAX and also a free trolley that will take you down to Manhattan Beach. There is parking, but you will pay $12 a day. One minus to this location is at night, there are many homeless/beggers walking around.

For our last night in the USA, we stayed here as we wante to be close to the airport and we liked LA Quinta in Orlando so much.

Rooms were MUCH cleaner than they were in Orlando BUT the staff was quite rude and unhelpful, unlike Orlando where they were lovely.

NEar to the airport, free shuttle to the airport and free yummy breakfast (more bagels.......I vow not to touch a bagel again!). Free internet in the lobby which was great for us travellers who didnt take a laptop (didnt matter on the last day though!)

Close to some fast food places BUT also in a dodgy part of town so we didnt want to walk far to get dinner. Saw a lot of homeless around that the hotel had security for (all one bloke wanted was the leftovers from breakfast which he poltiely asked for BUT they shoved him out. They were kinder in Orlando)

Good for a few days/overnight BUT no good if you want a happy friendly experience

clean, friendly, smaller than average rooms, good airport location, very good price. The shuttle can be very full at times (they stop at a total of 3 hotels both coming and going)..would stay again for the next LAX lay-over.
