“Decent if you are visiting UCLA”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Stayed for a night during my visit to UCLA.

(Cons)
1) Small room (which is OK if you are not staying here for a fancy vacation)
2) Close to UCLA but kind of "backyard-ish" location of Westwood.
And thus you do not feel like "Wow I am in Westwood!!!" but this, too, should be OK since you would have booked a different hotel had you hoped for a fancy LA or Hollywood atmosphere.
3) need to climb UP the hill to go to UCLA (which may one of the "Pros" if you need to exercise)

(Pros)
1) Walking distance to UCLA
2) Close to UCLA
3) Feels like you are part of the UCLA community. enough said!

Go bruins!

The hotel is really small and quaint. It is well appointed and very clean. Location is very good, almost inside UCLA. Parking is adequate, and there are restaurants and grocery shops nearby. The main discomforts were the height of the shower head (at about 5 ft, if you are any taller you can't really wash your hair…I'm 6'-1", water hit me in the chest). Also, the bed is kinda short.

Paying under $200 USD in Aug for a hotel close to Beverly Hills and Hollywood is hard to find however this fits the bill nicely. As other reviews state you couldn't call the rooms plush as they are a little dated but they were very clean, a good size and the addition of a room fan as well as aircon was excellent. The bed was extremely comfortable.

I searched for a hotel at the right price point in and around this area only 5min drive to Beverly Hills and 10 to Hollywood and any others were more motels in rough neighbourhoods. This hotel is located in a green area of the city with pleanty of bars and resturants close by. The added bonus of free parking was great.

They only comment that was a downside is dont expect a large breakfast, it's a grab and go style set up but if you can live with that I'd recomend booking here.

Hotel has alot of competition with better value not very far away.
My room looked much older than the photo's.
Fridge has a switch on the wall so that killed the annoying hum.
Bed was old, hard and really more of what you'd find in a dated place.
Parking impossible. Not enough spaces for the guests. I had to park up the street and pay dearly for it. Also, if you have two guest who drove, you are forbidden to use the garage for the other vehicle due to the lack of spaces for the rooms that are in the hotel. With luggage... that was not fun. In spite of a good AAA rate, I felt the value was subpar and can only attribute the decent reviews to the visiting Europeans who may be used to much older and tired hotels that are costly. Just isn't the case in LA. Keep looking. You can do better and better value too.

Room Tip: ask to have a parking space guaranteed. ask for a room that doesn't face the street. ask if th...

Very nice hotel with good services. Rooms are big, clean and modern. Staff is very professional. The location is great, 10min walk from Westwood Village which is very fancy and 15-20min drive from Santa Monica. No restaurant in the Hotel but lots of places to go around. I recommend it!

Great location for enjoying the UCLA campus. I could leave the rental car in the hotel garage and walk in Westwood. Nicely furnished, old-fashioned rooms with good shower and tub and good lighting in the bathroom, Comfortable bed. Friendly staff. Only two complaints. The continental breakfast while providing croissants, cereal, fresh fruit, tea and coffee was uncomfortable to eat because there was no dedicated breakfast room. One either had to carry a tray back to one's room or perch in the cramped lobby. Also, the wifi worked perfectly in the lobby but was spotty in my room--maybe that's been improved by now. Staff readily rebooted the system which helped.

Hilgard House is a great place to stay in LA. It is close to UCLA and within walking distance of a Trader Joe's. I have to second the other review which cited the black out shades as relatively expensive hotels do a poor job of keeping the light out. The rooms also come with refrigerators and microwaves and they serve breakfast.
