“Newly refurbished: Clean & Comfy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2011

We missed the side road the first time. Pay attention once your are on Santa Monica Blvd going west and crossed Westwood, stay far right and turn immediately into a side road. A few free parking spots in the front but plenty more in the back of the Inn. This is an excellent more economical place to stay if you are visiting UCLA and all the hotels in Westwood are fulled. The reception was friendly, the rooms were newly refurbished, clean and comfy. Complimentary breakfast was good fresh standard fare. We stayed Saturday night, the place was quiet and restful. Good alternative for us when we visit UCLA.

Located on a frontage road directly across from the LDS Temple. Don't be put off by lack of "curb appeal." Looks like an older 60's motel but rooms have been refurbished. Room was IMMACULATE, completely new bathroom, carpet, bedding, etc. Easy wireless Internet access. Does not have an elevator & rooms open to outside (typical "motel"), but neighborhood felt very safe. Very good value for the price.

Okay, they have some brandnew rooms. Clean. But that is what I EXPECT from a Motel/Hotel! But from the outside this Motel (Ex-Travelodge) looks like a horror-motel! Ugly, unsafe, stinky, dark hallways, and 60(?) years old carpets. This place is a horror! Every Motel 6 all over America is MUCH better!!!!! And the price for a room. Starts from 114 Dollar and up!!!! Plus tax!!!! ha ha ha ha, who is so damn stupid to pay that? Okay, I was..... Never again.

LAHotels, General Manager at Azul Inn West Los Angeles, responded to this review, August 9, 2011
Dear Califrank,

Thank you for your review; the hotel is currently in full renovation and pleased to announce that 75% of the rooms are fully renovated and the remaining 25% of our rooms will be completed on or before the end of September 2011. After which, we will begin our second phase of the renovation including the exterior, hallways, lighting and the completion of our parking lots.

We appreciate the opportunity to allow us to let folks know that the hotel is not yet perfect but will be completed soon. Furthermore; once our customers have the ability to experience our hotel with our new fully renovated rooms including flat panel televisions, coffee makers, mini refrigerators and pillow top mattresses including complimentary breakfast, parking and internet access; they will not only recognize the value for the price (which is considerably less than most hotels in the area- as most hotels are priced over $200.00) they will consider staying with us.

We do recognize that you are our valued customer and are regretful that your experience was not to your standard, but I hope you understand that we do care about our business. We hope that you will consider us in the future when the hotel is completed. I can assure you that all of these issues are being addressed. Further please note, that the hotel is 1.5 miles from Beverly Hills (a great central location) and is considered one of the best neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Hope to see you again!

Sincerely,
Denise Detrano
General Manager

this place was ok, suited what we needed - a cheaper place to stay in west la. some staff were helpful +++, some staff were far from helpful (the asian lady who worked at the front desk was not helpful). we had the upgraded larger room. close to restaurants and a 7/11 just down the road. our friends parked their car here with no issues. it seems like a bit of a dodgey area, but generally it seems quiet safe.

The Hotel is no longer called Travelodge. It is now called "AZUL INN". The Hotel is 2 miles from UCLA & about 5 miles from Santa Monica Pier. From the outside very dirty and smelly, but from the inside it was clean. We tried to check in at 11:30am and was denied by the Front Desk Clerk. We were not allowed to check in until 1:30p even after we had told the clerk we had a wedding to attend to at 4pm. We booked a non smoking room but the smoke from other rooms went through the vents anyways, so it was like we were having second hand smoke. The price we paid for one night including taxes was $100.58 for single queen bed.

This hotel is just sufficient for people not wanting to spend hundreds on uselessly luxurious rooms. The rooms smell a bit of having been used, and the maids push a bit on chlorine when they clean, but hey, my bed in not too bad (room 248), sheets were clean, the maids were very nice and one of the front desk ppl was very helpful, the others are just fine.
Plus, the hotel is close to Culver City, a nice neighborhoos, Rancho Park (another nice one) all the Beverly Hills stuff, and of course UCLA. Very satisfied in the end.

My room in this hotel stank--and one of the pillows stank of urine! The place is falling apart and when I checked in on March 28 with very rude and unprofessional night clerk, she was very unhelpful. Car windows had been broken in the car lot on the night I was there. The so-called continental breakfast consisted of over ripe bananas and stale rolls. In spite of all of this, the morning front desk clerk was a very nice person and very helpful. I recommend by-passing this place. There are other places in LA that are at least clean. I cut my stay here and moved elsewhere. What else can I say?
