“Charming Hotel on Venice Beach”
Reviewed June 20, 2011

Located right in the crazy mix of Venice Beach, the Venice Beach Suites and Hotel is a charming boutique hotel. The rooms were adequately equipped and clean. Each room has one queen bed with a rollaway bed offered. Satellite TV was available as well. The room we stayed in had a small kitchen area with a stove, microwave, and refrigerator. I loved the hardwood floors and ceiling fan.

Yes, there are no a/c units. But you don't need an a/c unit most days in So. Cal. Yes, the building is old. It is what it is. The rooms are not big and there are brick walls. But what do you expect from a building from the early 20th century? There is no parking lot, but they have a parking agreement with a lot about two short blocks away. Not a big deal. In fact, the gentleman at the front desk walked down to the lot to make sure everything was okay.

About the neighborhood: If you get uncomfortable around any type of counter-culture, you won't like Venice Beach. Venice Beach is wacky. It is busy. There are hippies and bums and punk kids and freaks and weirdos around the boardwalk and side streets. But most are harmless. People do party on the weekends, so yes, there might be some noise coming from outside. Still, if the idea of anything other than boring whitebread suburbia makes you nervous, you need to stay in Santa Monica or Marina Del Rey. Just expect to pay more.

The staff was extremely nice and helpful. I can't say enough good things about they way everyone treated us. They offered to help us with our bags, gave us a map of the area, and recommended places to eat. It was quite refreshing.

Overall, I would stay here again and recommend to others.

The hotel is old, but very clean. Everyone on the staff goes out of there way to make sure you enjoy your stay. If you are the type of person that needs a pool, hot-tub suites, & room service this might not be the place for you. If ya like a good, clean, friendly, place to lay your head at night I recommend Venice Beach Hotel & Suites.

What can i say location is perfect BUT it is an OLD hotel and the bad is that the rooms can get pretty stuffy especially in the summer to make it a little worse the rooms have NO AC just cieling fan that makes too much noise the bathrooms are very tiny and when i say tiny i mean TINY! the shower i couldnt even bend over to shave my legs in there it was too small actuallly it shaped into a tiny triangle i didnt feel comfortable lwaving the windows open at nite so we delt with the heat :( there are alotta bums who hang out infront of the hotel even though they locke the hotel down at night but still they like to hang out the parking is a HUGE issue you basically have to FIND a parking space and not move your care and just walk or rent a beach cruiser bike cause once u move ur car ull have trouble finding one close to the hotel and seriously be prepared to park fars away from the hotel the hotel staff was very nice they let me check-in early and the location was great i sat in the 2nd floor lobby and you could see everything there the hotel needs some updayting to do and maybe noise proof walls but other than that the hotel was ok we spent most of our time out in the beach and just came to the hotel to rest or shower the prices should go down just a tad bit too since its a motel :) OH and the elevator i think was a little bit scary BUT it sure added some touch of style to the hotel if they were to upgrade this hotel they should leave the elevator the way it is as long as its safe.

As Andy points out below, they arent the Best Western or Motel 6. We werent expecting to be dazzled by chic modern decor and corporate staff. What we got instead was a clean comfortable room with the added benefit of having a kitchenette.
Being right on the boardwalk of Venice had its good points and bad points. The bad was that if someone in the apartments nearby is having a party then you may find it hard to get a great nights sleep. The good point is obviously you step out of the hotel right in the thick of Venice boardwalk...five steps and you're in sand.
Staff were incredibly helpful and happy to offer their local expertise in any way possible.
Great value for money and incredible location. My wife is a fascist when it comes to hotels and normally books Novotels and Sofitels, even she loved this place...will stay again!

This hotel is located in the center of Venice Beach and for that reason, its a great pick if thats the environment you like. Street vendors, great people watching, good food, excellent beaches, etc. Matt at the Venice Beach Suites was helpfull and fun to talk too. The room was clean and nicely maintained and what a beautiful view! Venice Beach may not be for everyone, but we will return again sometime soon. Due to all the activity outside, its not a quiet location during the day, but then again, if you are looking for that, you would not be considering Venice Beach would you?

Room Tip: Reserve early. This is a very small hotel

Elevator dangerous, room has no heat, telephone. Hotel has no parking. Only parking lot cost $15 and is 3 blocks away. At night you will not feel safe walking those 3 blocks as it is not a nice neighborhood. Hot water takes at least 5 minutes to get warm on the 4 floor as we were told the heater is in the basement. The bathroom is tiny and not well maintained. The only good thing about this hotel is that it is right on the beach.

We always try to show very clearly who and what we are thru our web site. We are not the modern Best Western or Motel 6 on the Corner. We are a Historic Botique Hotel "ON Venice Beach at the Heart of Venice Beach, CA

We are very proud of our historic "Bird Cage Style" elevator which was installed in 1938. It is inspected regularly. Even the elevator inspector has told me that this elevator is more reiable than the new ones

Yes we are 100 years old and was built just after Venice of America (canals, amusement pier and all) was incorporated. Venice was built as a pedestrian community so parking is limited. We do offer parking only 300 feet from the hotel. (our blocks are about 100 feet long.

If you are looking for modern conviences such as forced ari heating and air conditioning indoor pools or valet service we do not have it. All of our rooms do have TV's, telephones, heaters, wirless internet, mini kitchens all for no additional charge.

Thank You

The staff at this hotel was so amazing and friendly that they made the hotel feel like home. It was extremely clean. They had fridge, stove, and utensils. The hotel is older so it takes a little bit for the shower to heat up. But that was so minor. The staff are very informative. Their recommendations were spot on. We will be back.
