First stay at Hilton Universal not quite satisfied but i will give them a second chance. the only thing that is nice is, so close to City Walk. You can go back and forth to hotel in few minutes. they have a large room and one thing i like about the room is... there's mini FRIDGE. yahoo! and extra pillow and blanket.

I only stayed one night and hadn't been here in years. Property is well kept up. Spacious rooms with all the amenities you expect from a full service hotel. One awesome feature was a universal charger that had adapter connections for every conceivable device. Nice feature. Very comfy bed!!! Perfect location right at the gate of universal studios and close to Hollywood.

You’re paying for the fact that it is only 5 mins walk from Universal Studios. Room was really large, but this meant the small TV was hard to see from the bed. Bed linens were high quality and soft. A/C was really loud so we ended up having to turn it off. When we arrived there was only one towel and a used cake of soap in the shower, but housekeeping was quick to bring more towels. Parking is expensive ($20 per night for self park). And the hotel information booklet was useless.

If you're only in LA for Universal Studios, this hotel is an obvious choice. It's a couple of minutes walk away from both Universal Studios and City Walk and there is a shuttle bus if you don't want to walk.

It's also a 10 minute walk to a metro station which was really handy for accessing other parts of LA. The walk back from there is up hill but there's a shuttle that takes you from the bottom to the entrance to Universal which is great if you don't want to walk.

The room I had was massive, and while I could see the freeway from there, the noise didn't bother me. All the staff I met were helpful and friendly so no complaints there. The amenities in the room were good and the bed and sofa were comfortable. I can't comment on the food as I ate at City Walk, but the buffet seemed popular.

We stayed for three nights at the Hilton by Universal Studios in February, 2013.
The location next to Universal Studios and City Walk could not have been better. You can walk within a few short minutes to City Walk. City Walk has many options for restaurants and shops. There's also a Movie Theater (though the prices per ticket are higher than you'd spend elsewhere).
The proximity to getting to places around the Los Angeles area is perfect! You are within a 15-20 minutes (without traffic) drive to downtown LA or Glendale. You can drive to Pasadena within 20 minutes and Santa Monica beach within 30 minutes- all without traffic of course.
There is also a convenient metro station that can take you to downtown LA or Hollywood's Walk of Fame etc. The room comes with a small refrigerator.
Regarding the hotel itself- The lobby and the rooms were slightly above average. Nothing special but clean. The cost to self-park $24 per day on the weekend and $20 Sun-Thursday nights. There are NO other options for parking- so keep that in mind. Additionally, you will have to pay $8/day for internet if you want more than 1 hour of free internet in the lobby. The beds were comfortable and the shampoos/soaps are nice quality.
Try to get a room on an upper level with a nice view. Even as a Silver Hilton Honor member I only got to the 11th floor. (They have 25 floors). My view was a nice view of the city and over looking Universal Studios. Also, as a Silver Hilton Honor member I still had to pay for internet beyond the 1 hour per day allotment. I was given two bottled waters upon arrival for being a silver member. A bit disappointing.
Overall the hotel's best feature is it's location to great attractions in the Los Angeles area. The room was quite and the beds were very comfortable, so you can plan on getting a good night's sleep.

This is my second stay at The Hilton Universal, again for a visit to Universal Studios, you cant beat the location for the Park and having City Walk with a large variety of restaurants its a one stop shop. If you do want to venture out to other Hollywood locations they are not too far away from this hotel with plenty of travel options one being the Metro train too get there. Our room was a great size for 2 adults and our 11 year old son. We had a great view looking over Universal Studios. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had room service which was great with a decent size menu to pick from. We did not use the pool this time as it was winter, but its a great part of the hotel. We had a drink at the lobby bar one afternoon which happened to be at happy hour so the free snacks were a bonus. The hotel is quite a drive from LAX, not close if you have to fly out from there, our cab bill was about $90. I recommend this hotel, its clean and safe, and has everything you need.

Room Tip: higher floors for the best views

My kids and I stayed here for a quick trip to Universal and the Getty. We liked the close proximity to Universal - although I never saw a shuttle, it was easy enough to walk. The self-park was far from the hotel itself, but about the same price as parking at Universal so I did not mind the $24 fee (too much). Checking in was slightly arduous, it seemed they were understaffed and we had to wait a bit. The lobby of the hotel was run down but the room was surprisingly large and comfortable. The beds were good, sheets, towels and everything else first rate. There was even a comfortable reading chair and desk. Our view was of the freeway which was actually nice to see at night. There was some noise, but not bad. The walls were thin, we could hear the neighbors. The shampoo & conditioner were great, but I wish they included cream. We ordered room service for dinner, nothing great but the burger looked pretty good. All in all a good place to stay for what we needed.
