“great location, great stay”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

We spent 4 nights @ the hilton universal city , opting for this resort as our based camp to circulate around LA.
The best location if you plan to hit the universal studios , a shutlle will drop you at the universal citywalk every 15 minutes, or walk ( it takes 6 minutes).

Close to Hollywood and Beverly hills ( 5 minutes from sunset bld). So great
The rooms are not so great : a bit old, double beds instead of queens bed , which is a shame as it is not very confortable. No space for a rollaway bed neither.
The pool is very nice : large, with a great jacuzzi, maybe a bit of painting necessary, but the pool was never too crowded, the food very nice. Great experience.

THe food options are amazing : try any of the buffets on friday, saturday or sunday brunch. Amazingly tasty. We ate there almost everyday, and it was delicious each time. We were really impressed by the quality of the food.
Universal studios were a hit with the kids , especially the new transformers ride.
We will probably stay in santa monica next time, as we prefer the " beach feeling " , but will never hesitate to stay again at universal should we visit the park again.
You can't go wrong.

Our family of four stayed here for four nights in August. This hotel has bed bugs. It started to flare up the day we left. Never having experienced bed bugs before, we didn't know how to diagnois it. Whole family was bitten. Due to severity of the reaction during the course of the next week, we sought medical attention, and to our horror, the confirmation that we experienced an allergic reaction to bed bugs. I will be lucky if my scars fade in a year. I contacted the Hilton to tell them to check the room so no one else would need to go through the same ordeal. It took over a week for someone to tell us that we will be contacted further. After four weeks, they sent us a certificate for a one night stay at a Hilton. Horribly insufficient response from this hotel. Will never stay here again.

Dear Lynn,

Please accept my deepest apologies for your very unpleasant experience. It is very unfortunate that Hilton Guest Assistance was extremely delayed with their notification process to the hotel on such a serious issue. We recommend that guests contact the hotel directly for immediate response to any concerns associated with your stay. We pride ourselves in responding same day as our goal, but always within 48 hours of notice. Hilton Guest Assistance responded to you directly with a Be My Guest Certificate for a one night stay anywhere in the Hilton family of hotels. By the time they forwarded your issue to us they had already taken matters in their own hands.

Bed Bugs are a host parasite and must be carried in to the environment by a person. They do not leave on their own and must be eradicated. We take extreme measures to inspect daily for this possible parasite due to the fact that our property attracts travelers from all over the world coming in all forms of transportation. It is a well known fact that many “carriers” of this parasite actually become a host during mass transit: busses, trains and planes as well as taxi cabs. Once detected or reported we have the room certified by a professional service to be pest free before allowing the room to be occupied by future guests. We use radical measures to extricate them, as well as inspecting surrounding rooms prior to allowing re-occupancy. I would appreciate an opportunity to ensure your satisfaction on how this was handled by Hilton Guest Assistance by taking responsibility for your confirmation of being this victim. I would appreciate you contacting my office to open communications, with this goal in mind. I can assure you that we do not have a Bed Bug problem, but like all hotels we have had to deal with them being brought in. We do take decisive appropriate measures on any very rare instance of discovery.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Mark Davis

We stayed in 2 rooms for two nights whilst visiting Universal Studios. The valet parking is smooth but the head doorman who unloaded the car only pushed the trolley through the door before he had his hand out for a tip.

Only later did i ralsie I would alos have to tip the bellman who took the trolly to our room.

Check in was good and the rooms we had were spacious although you had to stand against the coerner fo the window for the view of the park we had been promised.

The room was clean and comfortable - the charge for wifi is annoying - the cookies left in the room each evening were a nice touch.

At check in a big deal was made of the remodled pool area - what a let down!!

We stayed here 6 years ago and the pool area looked exaclty the same apart form being less well kept. The pool had a lot of needles floating in it form the trees and little effort was being made to clear these. The tables had lost of dirty paltes and glasses left on them which we had to clear and the pool bar staff made no effort to clear things or walk raound to offer service until the manager turned up.

We took the shuttle bus to Universal Studios in the morning which was good - but we walked back and it took less than 10 minutes.

Check out was easy and accurate but when I tried to take a baggae trolly myself i was informed it was not allowed due to insurance issues. When i pressed them they then told me it was as they needed to know where they were - when I pointed out that if this was true then the issurance issue was a lie I was greeted with a fake smile and a shrug.

We took our own bags to the car.

Next time we will try the Shereton next door.

Room Tip: Try the Sheraton

They gave me dirty room after dirty room! It's so disgusting to find tons of hair all over your bed that looks as if it had just been made with brand new sheets, and to turn your towel over after washing your face to find makeup all over the other side. The housekeeping is obviously playing a trick in which they make the dirty beds to seem as they were freshly made. The next night they gave me a new room which was also dirty yet had a made up bed. This time I was not exhausted and called the front desk. Sarah at the front desk is always there and is So RUDE! She stated that since her roommates makeup stays on towels at her place after washing them that my towels were clean. This hilton must save a lot on water bills from not having to wash anything!

I stayed two nights and would stay here again. The room, king, was spacious and had a great view. It was very clean and had great appointments and decor. I used the pool and bar and enjoyed them both. The pool was very nice but not anything special. The staff was great, very helpful and accommodating. I was visiting someone in Burbank so this was a great location.

We booked this hotel as looking for a good reasonably priced hotel in the centre of LA was proving difficult, we spent hours looking at hotels which were quite pricey but didn't look that great. As we had a car we decided to stay here as the hotel looked great and was a brilliant price so we would drive into LA. This proved to be a brilliant decision. The hotel is around 3 or 4 miles drive from parking near to the Chinese Theatre, parking for the whole day on a proper carpark cost $5!!
The Hilton was superb and we cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. ALL of the hotel staff we came into contact with were a credit to the hotel, just lovely. It is in a lovely safe area within a short walk to Universal City where we ate at night a couple of times. There is a free shuttle bus though if you would prefer not to walk, but this stops at 8pm during the week, 9pm at the weekend.I felt more than safe walking back to the hotel at midnight and I don't think I would have in the centre of LA.We ate breakast everyday in the hotel restaurant although there is also a Starbucks coffee bar selling pastries too. The reataurant was brilliant ,excellent service and a great choice of food.If we are lucky enough to be in the area again we would not look for anywhere else, I would stay here without question ,just a brilliant hotel in a great location

Stayed 3 nights and loved it. Close to universal ( we preferred shuttle up and walk down hill back). Very good service , friendly staff. We had coupons for breakfast and their Buffett was amazing ( including fresh squeezed oj and pork buns) for $10 upgrade. Free wifi as hh diamond. Pool great, deep refreshing and private. Very close to Hollywood ( $20 taxi) and Greek theatre where we saw Neil diamond . My only complaint is that room max size is 4 which meant 2 rooms ( got the 2nd room half price). Still cost for 3 nights what it cost at Hilton Anaheim for 6. Would be great if they offered a few family rooms. Still very recommendable.
