“Reliable conference hotel - not a good vacation choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 29, 2013

The Westin's standards of service, cleanliness, and room furnishings were high as always. I can't give this a review below 4 stars because the staff do so well with what they have.

But... This is such an ugly, ugly building in a boring location too. Every entrance to the building is a big grey concrete slab - it felt like the Soviet Union or something!

If you're there on business this is fine, but for a vacation it would be a shame to choose such a boring hotel when there are so many alternatives with great character nearby.

Rooms were very clean, comfortable and roomy. The set up is a little confusing at first you have to remember what color tower and elevator you are on. After figuring that out it was easy to get around. This hotel is very self sufficient. It has a mini mall inside the hotel with stores from gift shop to fine dinning and fast food places. It has other specialty shops such as Yankee candle shop to travel agency. You would not need to leave the hotel if you did not want to. Has a nice heated outdoor pool, exercise center and lounge downstairs. The staff through out the facility was friendly and helpful. Located downtown LA and a little walk to LA Live. Close to many wonderful restaurants and stores. Also next door to the YMCA I would stay here again.

Because of the layout of the hotel (four round towers connected in the middle), all of the rooms have a funkiness to the shape ... which was a tiny bit disorienting, but fine. Other than that, the bed was awesome (as always for Westin), the breakfast buffet was really nice, with lots of healthy options, and the revolving bar was super-nice ... and I wasn't chased out for having just sparkling water and dessert. Also, the valet pointed out a great Mexican place across the street - really helpful! Would go again.

I spent four nights here in April with my daughter who was attending a conference. We were amazed at the size of the place. Our room was great, 14th floor, with a view of downtown LA. We ate one breakfast in the hotel and then ventured out for less expensive options. Lots of shops within the hotel for souvenirs, snacks, etc., although many had closed. It was very conveniently located to the Grammy Museum and the Nokia Center. While my daughter was in meetings I booked a Warner Studios Tour and Hollywood tour through the concierge and was picked up at the door.

The layout of the hotel is so interesting (in a good way). The lobby area was very nice. On the first 4 floors there were shops and a fitness center. There was a nice outdoor pool. The room had huge windows with an amazing view. The hotel is in walking distance to the metro.

This is a really large hotel and does get kudos for being clean, but overall, they level of service and the quality was just not typical of the experience I've had in other large corporate hotels. In addition, my stay was further impacted by a movie that was being filmed in the hotel that restricted elevator service and access to some of the common areas. Not to mention the pool was also closed for renovations. None of those details were communicated to me prior to arrival, or even on arrival and the rate I was given was definitely not the cheapest in town. In addition, the 'heavenly bed' was anything but heavenly and complaints were never addressed during my four nights there.
I was in LA for a convention and this hotel isnt especially convenient. I'll add too, that food in all three of the restaurants I tried was sub-par at best. That includes the room service.
I'd recommend the Standard down the street or LUXE adjacent to the convention center to others traveling to this area.

Was here for a conference, and had a lovely time. My room was extremely comfortable and well appointed. Very impressed with the plush mattress and bedding. My room had a nice view of the mountains. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Lots of neat shops and restaurants right in the hotel.
