“Great Location in Downtown LA”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

This hotel has a great location in downtown LA, with a lot of shops and restaurants in the neighborhood and with bus stops and metro station within walking distance. The room is very nice, clean and spacious bathroom. Our room was on the 27th floor and had a great view of downtown LA. The staff is very kind, attentive and efficient. The pool and the gym are very good too. In my opinion, the only negatives are that the hotel internet (12.95 USD for 1 day) and parking (40.00 USD per night).
Despite these negatives, i think it was a nice stay in this hotel.

Our family spent one night here and that was more than enough. We were a party of three and requested two queens, and in this cavernous hotel, we were told there were none, but for $30 we could have a roll away cot. I was surprised at the price and the clerk told me it was because these were full sized "Westin standard" cots, not cheap roll aways. After some balking, I was offered a free roll away. It may not have been the "Westin standard" cot, because it was small, uncomfortable and came lacking pillows and blankets.

The room was incredibly small, and because the hotel is comprised of four circular towers, it is awkwardly shaped. Our room stank like an old bar on Sunday morning. I called the desk to ask for a non smoking room and was told all the room were non smoking and had been for decades. They offered to send housekeeping up with some freebreeze. They really need to replace the old, smelly carpets.

The pool area was also in a sad state, with loose and missing tiles in the pool and no hot tub.

The most incredible part of our stay was the fact that we were in a room on the 30th floor and the window (level with the floor), opened completely out and would have been large enough for an adult to get out, if so inclined and would have easily had a child plummeting 30 stories! I nearly had a heart attack!! It was obvious that this window had been tampered with by someone, as the screws were removed and the locks had been tampered with, but good grief! I brought this to the attention of the management and they fixed it. I hope they check the rest of the million and one windows in case it was a hotel staff member who tampered with the window. The apologized for the inconvenience and asked if we had been traumatized...I should have said yes :)

The design of the hotel is horrible, it feels like maze of concrete. There are four towers, which are coded like a facility for people with Alzheimer's- each tower is given a color and a shape. The lobby was nice enough, fountains and the like.

Suffice it to say, for the outrageous rate, this hotel was underwhelming. I would not recommend it, and I would not stay there again.

This hotel is not cheap, even for someone taking advantage of special conference rates. I'd stayed here years ago when the facility was new and it seems to have held up quite well in the interim. Travel among the lower floors can be quite confusing if you use the stairs or escalators and rooms are arranged around four, color-coded, corner cylinder towers. Sometimes, as you scurry across the connecting tubes among the towers you get to appreciate what a rat in a maze feels like. However, the outward facing external glass elevators present many engaging views. Conference rooms were OK but nothing special. The mainly fast food restaurants on some of the lower floors provided surprisingly affordable decent fare though the brew pub was assaulting noisy. Sitting outside of it was an option but icy blasts of overly vigorous air conditioning forced my party to move on a couple of occasions and we had to request that doors adjacent to the terrace be closed to alleviate the frigidity. Long lines at the other in-house restaurants kept me from trying them, though the room service breakfasts were at least as good as I've had in other large chain hotels. The neighborhood doesn't contain many alternative dining options, except in other hotels of similar mien. Apart from checkin and departure it is possible to stay here and have little interaction with hotel staff, though the taxi hailers performed well when I wanted a cab. If you like to see ambitious architecture and to experience anonymity in a large efficiently run institution which provides many services, the Bonaventure is fine. Intimate it is not.

This was a quick, one-night business trip. This is a cavernous, touristy hotel. Elevators run up and down the outside of the building, which is interesting. Not the most suitable place to stay when on business. The room was plain. The hostess in the breakfast room was inattentive.

Can't say enough nice things about this hotel....other than the horrible traffic from LAX International to downtown..

Nice pool-small but clean and sufficient chairs/lounges, Fabulous rooms...4th floor mezzanine area has mall type food for budget meals as well as fabulous hotel dining. Shops for things you forgot from home, as well as walking distance to Target or Macy's.

They have a brewery-pub type facility for outdoor dining near the pool. Service was terribly slow, but weather was pleasant enough to manage the wait.

We stayed at the Westin Bonaventure for a Dodgers baseball game and a LA tour. The staff was very helpful, the view from the room great, the pool on the roof top a lot of fun and location worked well for getting to the game. The hotel structure is very unique with a food court and shops and after a long day of touring provides an area to explore without having to leave the property. We very much enjoyed the hotel and would definitely stay there again.

I have lived 40 minutes outside of Los Angeles all my life, so I've driven by the Bonaventure many times. My husband and I were being treated to dinner at Flemming's, so I thought it would be lovely to stay downtown rather than making the drive after a lovely meal and cocktails. I used SPG points, from our American Express Card ,to book the room online. Parking at the Bonaventure is $40/day -valet. Give yourself at least 15 extra minutes when you want to call for your car because this is a HUGE hotel and the valet is very busy! Check in was easy. SPG members have special check-in desk. Ricardo checked us in. He was great! We were upgraded to a suite on the 17th floor- an SPG member floor. We had lovely views of downtown from both the bedroom and the living area. These suites have two bathrooms, a small fridge, a coffee/tea maker and two televisions. WiFi is an additional fee. The room appeared recently renovated; however, I did expect it to be a bit more elegant than it actually was. It was nice, but rather simply decorated. The fixtures were not as high-end as I had imagined they would be. We took a taxi to Flemming's from the hotel. We waited about 30 seconds for a taxi to drive up to pick us up.
After dinner, we had a drink in the hotel's top floor Bona Vista Lounge. It is a rotating bar that you must visit. They give you Chex Mix at the cozy, outward facing booths, so you can enjoy the view out the tremendous windows. We also visited the Lakeview Bistro in the Lobby for the breakfast buffet. It was a lovely buffet with both American & Asian standards. The orange juice was amazing. We felt like the buffet was a "deal" in such an upscale hotel. The hotel staff was polite ,and we enjoyed our stay. I will mention that I did awake during the middle of the night to the sounds of the freeway/traffic a couple of times. If you're staying downtown in the middle of everything, you certainly shouldn't be expecting silence.
