“Take a Step Back in Time”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

I love this place. I stay at the Westin Bonaventure (WB) every time (I am in LA 3+ times per year) I travel to Los Angeles.

Yes, there are better hotels (read: fancier) in the downtown LA core; but, there are very few places that afford the notoriety and history of the WB.

The funkiness of the promenade level of the hotel is fascinating. It feels like the hotel is caught in a time warp. Almost like a 50's era "destination hotel" where people would vacation and spend their entire trip within the edifice of the hotel. There is a Korean BBQ juxtaposed to a traditional Japanese spa. Wow - how cool.

The location is fantastic. The eclectic varieties of amenities are super funky (that is the second time I used the word "funky"). The service is good. The facilities are freshly remodeled. Taken together - all of the pieces add up to a really great hotel. Anyway you look at it - the Westin Bonaventure is in downtown LA; and the new "LA" is a really cool place with a number of really dynamic activities and events.

Room Tip: Request an upper floor room. The views of the LA hills are fantastic.

Hotel is in a good location for my LA office. Check in and out were quick and efficient, but the lobby isn't easy to find from street level, it's a huge vacuous space and lacks any kind of welcoming character. Getting to the colour coded elevators through the bar or you had to walk all the way around the lobby area. It's a very large hotel, but there wasn't any delay waiting for the elevators. Elevators are glass and external, so you need a head for heights!

It's a business hotel, so I probably wouldn't stay on vacation as I felt it was just a little soulless. Am usually a big fan of Westin chain.

Room was clean, modern and comfortable with usual heavenly bed, always such a joy to sleep in. However there was no hair dryer in my room and after 30 minutes waiting for one to be delivered, I had to give up and leave for my meeting with damp hair.

There's a coffee area at the bar, serving Starbucks, but food choices are limited. If you want a very early breakfast this is your only choice.

The hotel has a modern architecture style, with round towers and panoramic elevators. it's itself a tourist attraction. I stayed on the 30th floor. Awesome view of other towers. Staff is polite and the coffee shop at the lobby can solve your food problems for breakfast and other meals. Very good food, indeed! Excellent room, clean ,new, spacious etc
The location is not so great if you have children, or stay there over weekends and holidays. It gets really desert around the hotel, not welcoming you to walk around, although it's near the Walt Disney Music Hall , the opera etc...For business must be a superb location, however.

Business trip downtown. Great location. Very high price for parking $38.00 per day for guests. Quick pleasant checkin. Company set up room. Presented gold SPG card. Was not offered any upgrades. Modern comfortable room. Dirty straw behind door on floor. Small room, nice size bathroom. Very quiet nice heavenly beds. Pool very clean with comfortable chairs. Attendant working to keep towels out on chairs. Pool is heated. Pub across from pool had a great happy hour menu, this is a inexpensive option for dinner. Quality food. Excellent service. Sat outside. Gift shop expensive for snacks. Several additional shops on various levels not with the hotel. Can purchase everything you might need on the property. Various low budget options for dining on different floors. Lots of choices. Would stay at this property again. Friendly staff. Liked having Starbucks in the room before I left.

Of all my trips for business to LA this is the first time I've stayed here. How many movies have I watched with a scene shot in this hotel? wow. Very nice lobby, great local jewelry store at the lobby level. Staff were very nice and helpful. Had breakfast in the lobby, the buffet was sufficient had had something for everyone, even preserved duck eggs for those of you who like such things. Is the hotel starting to show some age, yes, but my room was nice, it was great to have a mini suite which was very well furnished, very comfortable bed, bathroom, living room.

Stayed here as part of a trip to the West Coast of the states. Has the wow factor when you first arrive and it lives up to the first impression. Good central location for many of the sights. Great room, nice friendly staff who are happy to help with any questions. The only thing to be wary off is the car parking. Valet parking only, at $38 per night is fairly pricey - but parking is at a premium in LA. And when you check out, the wait for the car can be a long one - we waited about an hour after check-out.Being downtown, you have to be careful of which streets you walk down , but don't let this put you off. It's a business and conference district and some of the restaurant hours are geared around this , which can be a little limiting. Overall, I would stay here again

Room Tip: Higher rooms have great views over the city, and the lifts are fast and frequent

The rooms were cozy with modern decor of good quality. The standard rooms were a little too perfect in a way that may be small to some people. The bed was very comfortable and the room service for me was top notch. The people enjoy what they do here. A hotel at this level needs more pro shops that are regulated at higher standards. The shops that I saw reminded me of Walmart/flee markets and the food court on the 4th floor had too many mom and pops restaurants that degrade the property. The main lobby is newly renovated with a modern touch and it is market for people that spend $22.50 for breakfast buffet. However, the visual of the 4th floor is a little disappointing in certain areas. It needs to be regulated to keep the shops and restaurants up to standards. Maybe franchises are needed. Anyway, management needs to focus on these areas to make the Bonaventure a renown landmark.
