This grand old lady is still elegant for her age and has had extensive cosmetic attention to drag her into the 21 st century Situated in a very central part of town, the hotel is clean and tidy with ice making on floors but no bar fridge ???.TV selection is poor, mainly pay per view. The hotel foyer is something else, being pure art deco.Stayed in room 575 0n July 2nd and 3rd. and it was noisy during the night from external activityl. Then room 324 on July 16th which was much quieter. All in all an interesting experience. The staff are very obliging and efficient.

First of all my fiance booked everything on our vacation in California. This was an awesome and beautiful gift to stay here. We went club. Let's start with my Title. This is the actual hotel Ghostbuster's actually was shot in, which is one of our all-time favorite movies. :) When we drove up to it we were greeted by the valet guys who were honestly very nice and welcoming. As you step through the tall glass and brass doors you see a large, maybe even majestic, room where you would check in. Although this was not the original reception room, it was still absolutely beautiful and the art work was fantastic, let alone the architecture! We went up the elevator's, which I am sure are the same ones from the movie because they were a little small lol and I could picture the scene where the boys are all in there with the proton packs! so we got off at the club floor. Beautiful long halls with carpet everywhere but the rooms themselves. They definitely kept the old charm of the 80's hahaha and of it's time! Again I felt like I was in a palace! At the end of one hall was the club room/restaurant. It served breakfast and snacks throughout the day. Wine and drinks as well with service! When we arrived at our room, we opened the door to a big room, for the upper-class people of the old time. yet still it was a very good sized room with a walk-in closet beg enough to have 5-8 people in it. The bathroom was good too. Slept very well in our king sized bed! It is said that it is haunted but saw nothing. Even called the nurse out and nothing!;-p We visited around the hotel and took pictures of the reception room where the Oscar's used to take place! We ate in their restaurant and wow very good food steak was perfect , everything was perfect. Service was friendly! We took a dip in the Pompeii bath! again, the art and architecture were phenomenal and just wow! I didn't want to come out! We went for some cocktail shrimp and salmon burger at the bar, which had beautiful grand piano and a show was about to start. they kept almost everything to it's time and we even got our shrimp in an old silver bowl from the 20's30's! Service was impeccable and wine was great as well. I don't understand how people can write any negative thing about this place! they don't understand the meaning of historical beauty! We will be back!

Room Tip: Club room is all i have to say

Some parts of this hotel have old school charm; other parts are just old. The restaurants within are very good (good breakfast buffet at $21.95). The staff/customer service is top notch. However our room had a maintenance man in it when we opened the door for the first time. He was fixing the shower at the time we checked in, which worked after he left but the knob kept coming off the cold water. The tile shower also had mold that a Mr Clean Magic Eraser would have removed. The closet was huge, however you're not able to hang anything up at all because there is a shelf that goes all the way around the inside of the closet. There is no refrigerator which we found very disappointing for this price. Be warned that if you want a quiet night's sleep DO NOT get a room over the street as you will clearly hear traffic all night long. Sofa machines ($3 Coke) are located on even number floors, but that's not unusual for several hotels these days. All in all, we would stay here again but definitely ask for a much quieter room.

Stayed here for an overnighter. Was there for a Staples event, but unless you were doing something similar nearby I don't see why you'd stay here. Old place that didn't resonate with me. Staff were nice and the guy cooking the omelettes at the breakfast buffet was a top bloke!

Conveniently placed, it is a beautiful hotel. Staff were warm and friendly, were given accurate advice on where and where not to go. Rooms very comfortable, clean and quiet. There were two weddings on while we were there and there was very little noise late at night. Cannot fault this place - excellent, it has lots of character.

I've been staying at this hotel twice a year for 10 years for business. It is still beautiful and the staff is still wonderful. But some executive somewhere in the Millennium hierarchy decided to do away with room service. Seriously. Get in at 9PM - sorry no food. Want to eat in your room? Sorry not happening. Do you want something other than mediocre Italian or Asian? Sorry not happening. A hotel of this caliber should have room service. Even if it is 5 items. Worst of all - I didn't find out about this change until I had undressed and gotten ready for bed. They should at least tell you about it when you make a reservation or check in. At 6 PM even the sundry shop is closed. Even though I love this hotel, I won't be staying here again. The staff seemed as dismayed as I did about the change.

Pros:
Convenient location and close to freeway. Its a couple of blocks from the 110 which you can junction to 10 or the 101 depending on the direction you are going.

Coffee Bean right across the street, except it closes at 1PM, but there are about 4-5 other coffee shops nearby.

Close to several bars that was hopping on Friday/Saturday night.

Hotel lobby was very beautiful and adjacent hallway was very beautiful. The ceiling had very intricate art work. There was a hallway which included beautiful pictures and history of the hotel.

Close to several parks, concert hall, museum, library.

Cons:
Very expense parking. $42 dollars a day, but you do get In/Out privileges. There is parking in Perishing Square for $16 dollars a day based on the sign I saw, but I did not use this.

Floor 10 that I stayed on did not have a ice maker, we had to either go up/down one floor.

Water pressure in sink is very low. Probably a water saving function, but still stinks. Bathroom was very small. You have to close the door to sit down on the toilet. You then had to put the cover down to flush the toilet.

No refrigerator. When traveling with kids, this may be a problem, but admittedly, this is more a corporate business hotel.

No free internet. Cost $10 per day. (This is stupid in my eyes.)

Overall, the hotel was fine, not bad, but not great either. It's for business travelers staying either for an event or conference and the hotel is geared toward this style. Hence no free internet, refrigerator, etc. Use of the business center starts at $3.00 for the first 3 minutes and 50 cents a minute thereafter. You think normal people pay this? Business travelers will be submitting expenses for this.

Nice ambiance, beautiful hotel, but it's going to cost you for every little thing.

Room Tip: If you didn't already know, most of the attractions areas and downtown LA requires parking and t...
