We stayed at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel for two nights in April 2019 - the end of our three-week road-trip before flying back to the UK. Some luxury hotels are a bit stuffy and formal, while others are simply chilled and great. This one was definitely in the latter category.
The staff on the reception desk couldn't have been more helpful - they were ready with maps, suggestions of which roads got busiest, where the nearest gas station was and many other things besides. Our hotel room was in the upper area, looking out onto the swimming pool. From the map we were concerned that there might be a lot of traffic noise from the nearby I-405, but in reality it was a very peaceful location.
We ate in the restaurant on our first night, while we ordered room service on the second night. This was the first time our son (aged 11) had ever had room service - so it was very much about the experience! On both occasions the food was fresh and beautifully cooked; unlike most of our time in the USA, the portion sizes were sensible (to our British standards) and we could actually finish the plates.
This hotel has valet parking only, which costs $36 per night plus tax ($39 per night total). Yes, it's another cost which visitors from the UK like us are probably not familiar with. However, the guys doing the parking couldn't have been friendlier, and they always had a bottle of water to hand out when it was hot.
The rooms were lovely and spacious, although if I was to be a bit picky the beds were rather soft (at least for us). All in all it was a lovely way to end our "holiday of a lifetime"!
