I stay in a lot of Best Western Hotels and Motels and this one was sadly lacking in every way. The pictures are very misleading as the rooms look nothing like this. The whole place needs a complete refurbish. The bed spreads looked like they had been on the bed since the seventies. After perusing the room my husband and I decided to upgrade to the so called best suite in the place. It wasn't much better. Its called the imperial suite and should be called the imperial dungeon, we were just too tired at this point to find yet another hotel. To start with, the elevator which is supposed to be on a key lock system for guests security didn't work both days we were there. Any person off the streets could go up to the rooms, would just have to wait for the women working the desk to leave for a split second. When we got the upgrade, which cost us another $200 for two days, we shouldn't have bothered. The living room was furnished with what looked like garage sale items in an Asian motif. It had a ratty old hide a bed, a TV and a table with a couple of end tables. Nothing inviting at all. We upgraded so one of us could stay up and watch TV without disturbing the other but this too is impossible because of the poor room planning. In order to use the bathroom you must go into the bedroom which kind of defeats the point. Another strange thing , the small antiquated fridge is in the living area, while the coffee maker ect... is in the bedroom beside your toilet and sink. Just a real dump over all. Whole place needs to be done over or dropped as a Best Western PLUS. We couldn't believe this place was classified as a plus compared to the others we have stayed in. The only redeeming feature of this place were the nice girls that work the desk and the six block walk to the redline subway. Find somewhere else to stay, believe me. The place is old, tired and needs to be completely redone.

Room Tip: I don't think you could find a good room in this place. Stay somewhere else.

We were searching for a hotel in downtown los angeles and found this one. We read the reviews on tripadvisor and were not sure if we should risk it. But as the Rates were incredibly low(especially with the AAA discount) we tried it. As soon as we entered the Lobby, we knew , hat we hadn't made a mistake with choosing the dragon gate inn. The staff was very kind and friendly at all times and the always did their best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The breakfast was served in the bistro in the atrium, and you could sit inside or outside the bistro. Additionally, for the safety oft the guests , the upper floors were solely accessible by entering the room keycard inside the elevator.
The rooms were clean and , in our case, big enough for four persons.if you are looking for a cheap, but very good Hotel in downtown los angeles we suggest to consider this Hotel.

Small but very convenience location near downtown LA. Lots of (mostly Chinese, more others if you are willing to walk further) restaurant within walking distance. good service, very friendly staff. Valet (only) parking (extra paid) on site. Great value even considering the parking extra (think of it as an automatic discount if you don't have a car).

The hotel does not really meet Best Western standards but everything was ok: tv, coffee machine, free wifi, nice breakfast, $10/day parking. However, the blankets were not 100% clean. We would just have expected more from a Best Western hotel. However, this fit perfectly with the location, in Chinatown.
