we stayed here for one night, so we could catch the amtrak train the next morning. we got there before 11am, but they didn't have a room cleaned. we left to go grab something to eat. they said that our room would be ready when we got back. they put our luggage in there office under lock & key. we were gone for about an hour, they had a better handicapped room for us. we walked into our room & wow was it big. the bathroom is as big as our bathroom & bedroom combined.. it was huge. the rest of our room had a king size bed, 2 end tables, table & 2 chairs, refrigerator, flat screen tv, computer desk with chair. the place has alot of other businesses around the whole building, so it is like a little city. we would stay here again.it is also right in the middle of chinatown.

Room Tip: stay on the 3rd. floor, very quiet

If your budget does not include the Bonaventure, then I recommend this smaller hotel. The place is well appointed. There is parking, a must in Los Angeles. However, it's conveniently located within walking distance of all in Chinatown, and a short bus ride from the train station where you can catch Amtrak, or any of the metro lines or Big Blue Bus. My colleagues and I often have a retreat in the area every other year, so we book this location. It is apart of a courtyard shopping center. There's a hair salon, foot massage, travel agency as well as a pharmacy and courtyard diner. When we've stayed there, breakfast was included in the form of vouchers for the diner. However, I was told they were doing to open up a separate dining space in the coming year. The staff is friendly and helpful, and printed out our boarding passes for us, with a smile. The room I had 2 queen sized beds, with a flat screen TV, and fridge. It's not a luxury property, but it is very well appointed for the price and very clean. Both times I've stayed there, foreign travelers from Europe have said they really liked the price point for these amenities and proximity to downtown Los Angeles.

Arrived late in the day after a long drive. Freeway traffic was awful. When I called the hotel for an alternate route, they did not offer any help at all. Basically told me to just stick with it and tough it out... which I did. When we finally arrived, I discovered why there was not much help. One desk clerk was busy on the computer, but not doing hotel business. The second was on the phone with what sounded like a personal matter. Neither of them stood up and they barely looked up to acknowledge our arrival. The attendant in the parking garage stood impatiently watching as I unloaded my car. He offered no help... guess he was just a car parker. And, please note that there is a daily fee for parking in the hotel garage. The A/C was off completely and the room was hot after a very hot humid day. The closet sliding doors were off the track. The tub area is very, very small. You cant walk between the tub and toilet to adjust the hot and cold water. The vanity is also too small for two people.
Now... the next morning, the young lady at the front desk couldn't have been more helpful. She answered my questions with a very friendly smile. She was definately a people person. She made several walking tour suggestions and arranged for us to leave the car in the hotel parking for a very nominal charge. This young lady saved the day for the Dragon Gate Inn. However, on our way to breakfast which is in a separate cafe next door to the hotel, we both had to step over a puddle of human vomit left from the night before. This was not in the hotel, but was on their entry front door. I guess in summary... I'll not go back to this hotel, and suggest that others make different arrangements as well.

Its an old property, the staff is helpful and respectful. The environment is very relaxed. Saw many foreign tourists in the hotel which could be a good sign i guess...The restaurant doesnt belong to the hotel, by this i mean that you dont get the same kind of service from the staff there.

The hotel parking lot is not the one you might think beside the hotel but in a basement on an entrance by the other side. Elevator can take a while. Lots of banks nearby. Very close to downtown.

Room Tip: Try to choose away from the elevator is kinda noisy when opening the door. Theres a drugstore that o...
