I stayed at Kyoto Grand Hotel for three nights for a convention happening in the convention center. Since I left to register at the last minute, most of the other hotels were already sold out.
The hotel room was nice, but it was a little bit outdated. I'd say the bathroom needs some remodeling.
The hotel site says they offer a complimentary shuttle within a three mile radius of the hotel. I was only able to use this complimentary service 1 out of 3 times I needed. One time they told us they were busy and another time they told me that they only did a 2 mile radius when I asked to go to the convention center and couldn't take me there.
I also had problems with the Internet on my first night and couldn't use it to find a restaurant close to the hotel. So I asked their "concergie", i.e. front desk, for suggestions for a nice restaurant not very far. They ended up sending me to a restaurant that was already closed and they even gave me the wrong address. Ended up going back to the hotel since the cab driver couldn't suggest anything and had dinner there - the food was horrible (Rendezvous). The hotel doesn't have anything close by and is not safe to walk around at night.
They have a complimentary fitness center. It's just Ok. It's very small and the treadmill is kind of old, already tearing.
In a matter of one month, the ranking of this hotel has already dropped from 54 to 60.

We are all very sorry for the experiance you encountered at the Kyoto Grand Hotel. Our renovation is almost complete, and am sorry yu had a room thats bathroom has not been touched yet. The shuttle service is for local businesses, shopping and restaurants. Your convention provided transportation every 10 minutes to and from the convention center, and I am hopeful you were able to utilize this service. Though not located adjacent to the convention center we are ideally located adjacent to city hall, LAPD headquerters, Little Toky and Union Station,

This hotel is located in a terrible location. It is not conveniently located close to anything. The service in the restaurant for breakfast was terrible. Front desk service was good. Hotel is in need of a refurbishment. $30 dollars to park your car each day.

Thank you for comments. Los Angeles is spread over an area greater than 40 square miles, so ones location is very dependant on ones need on their trip. We are ideally located to all of downtown, and adjacent to all Government buildings, City Hall, Little Tokyo, Olveras strret, Bunker Hill, Union station, LA live and the convention center. With regards to parking we are the least expensive Hotel for parking and the only Downtown Hotel that offers self parking.

i booked this hotel thru hotwire.com which i would not do again but i got a great deal. the hotel is nice, some of the staff was friendly, some were a little stuck up. my room was okay the bed was really soft & comfortable. i didn't like the bathroom it needed to be upgraded. i was very disappointed that there was no vending machine and ice machine on my floor, they said they did have one but honestly they don't. plus no room service during my stay...the restaurant that does the room service closed at 2pm?! oh that's nice. thank god there was a starbucks next to the hotel and a gift shop in the hotel but the prices were a little too high. $3.00 for a little travel size toothpaste are you kidding me?! i don't understand why they charge so much for parking, internet, room service and other stuff but their hotel is so outdated? it doesn't even come close to the hilton...at least the hilton has room service all day and a airport shuttle and their bathrooms are nicer. the next time i come to LA i'll stay at a more reliable hotel like the hilton. the kyoto grand sucks.

First of all Thank you for taking the time to let us know your concerns. First I assure you that there is either a vending machine or Ice machine on every floor.Room service operates seperatly from the restaurant and is available from 6 am to 11 PM 7 days per week. Beng a Hotwire guest Irealize pricing is important to you and I assure you that our pricing in the Hotel is comparable to all other Full service Downtown Hotel properties. The Hilton offers LAX shuttle as they are at the Airport. No Propertry Downtown offers free shuttle to the Airport it is too costly. Finally with regards to the Hotel we are currently undergoing a renovation whcih address the remeing issue.

After reading osme reviews on this site, I was a little nervous about staying at this hotel. It sounded like a mixed bag. Our experience here was great, though. The inside of the hotel was very nice and the rooms were large and stylish. It's in a great location as it's around the corner from Little Tokyo and it's only 4 blocks from Disney Hall and the Music Center. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in downtown LA.

Positives: Lobby is spectacular, rooms *look* nice.
Negatives:
1) Daily Room Deposit not mentioned - simply appeared as pending charge ($50/day).
1.5) Double charged on card (originally paid at reservation time, then pending charge put on card), required time to rectify.
2) Room was not prepped - someone had used the toilet and left a present.
3) Apparently wasn't the room originally intended for us (based on trying to connect to wifi and failing authentication, had to work with phone tech support for 20 minutes to clear up)
4) Charged for internet connection ($10/day) -- um, hardly any hotel does this anymore.
5) All the knobs in the furniture had been installed with the wrong screws - they fell out when pulled.
6) Inhouse shuttle service has extremely limited destinations.
7) Nearest useful bus stop is several blocks away.
At this point, wasn't even interested in trying the restaurant or bar.

Our regular hotel location in the downtown LA area was booked up and so we needed an alternate location for our small business group. It was a welcome experience and the sales staff was very welcoming in the package they'd put together for us. Bell staff was not quite as available as we'd like, but it all worked out. Not sure if more than 1 elevator was running at one point, so it seemed I must have made ca. 15 stops on the way down from the 20th floor. This hotel is in a more pedestrian friendly location. Did not have time opportunity to take advantage of the restaurants, but did enjoy an evening stroll about their Gardens. It was very easy to exit the 101 and return to the 101.

We liked the hotel a lot. We booked through Expedia and got a great rate. It was less than $100 per night and that included taxes. The lobby is beautiful and the room was very nice and clean. A great feature is the free shuttle that will take you anywhere within 3 miles. It is not always available but it was available most of the time. The hotel is right near Little Tokyo and a couple of Japanese markets both of which are fun to explore. Around the corner from the hotel is the "Senka" coffee shop which serves better coffee than the Starbucks in the hotel. The staff was very helpful.
For the price, which is less than we paid for a hotel in Schenectady, NY, the hotel can't be beat.
