“Location and Value for Money”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

We stayed in April 2014 Clean Friendly Staff especially the lady who does breakfast of a morning probably 2-3 Star Comfy Beds. Some rooms could do with a face lift but don't let that put you off Location Location Location just behind Highland Plaza on Hollywood Blvd you can walk through the Mall and your on Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame Chinese Theater. Head up the road to the CSV they sell everything from Alcohol to bandaids good prices compared to Australia.$20 dollars in a Taxi will get you to Universal Studios. The Roosevelt is nearly directly across the road from the Plaza and triple the price. Would highly recommend this to anyone and I will stay again. Could a Aussie please take the lady doing Breakfast some Vegemite she would really love it.

Room Tip: Ground Floor 2 Queen Bed Room was great

We loved staying here it was a fantastic location to base ourselves for a few days on our first trip to LA. It was great to be able to just walk down to the Kodak Theatre and see everything on the Hollywood Boulevard. The desk staff were really helpful and our room had lots of space. It is an older place but it was still really comfortable and clean. We caught the metro to downtown to watch the basket ball at the Staples Centre.

Stayed at the Orchid Suites recently in a 2 Bedroom 2 bathroom Suite with 3 other friends. Location was perfect just behind Hollywood Boulevard and very central to everything. Rooms were spacious. Yes a little dated but if you will take a lot of extra space over finer fittings and decor it was perfect. The walls are paper thin, previous reviews made me prepare for extra noise however I wasnt expecting to learn the couple staying next to us were Australian too and had to get up early for a tour, the baby in the room aboves name was Jackson and loved a musical toy to sleep etc....so yes paper thin often waking us up very early. We would come home late at night too and I imagine we would have woken other guests up for the same ressons. Can not rate the staff highly enough. So friendly and welcoming. Especially the lady who works the breakfast buffet. The noise was the onky downfall and I would definately come back just with some ear plugs! Highly recommended for anyone looking for somewhere in Hollywood.

Based on traveler reviews and photos, our expectations were properly set and met. The hotel location is very convenient and on-site parking for $11/day was great. As other reviewers have noted, the walls are very thin and you can hear conversations, snoring, etc. in neighboring rooms. In addition, the loading/delivery area for the Loews Hotel and Dolby Theater essentially surround the hotel and it was VERY noisy in the mornings. We're not late sleepers but we were on vacation and truck ramps banging at 7am wasn't how we would have chosen to start our day.

Breakfast was plentiful and there was good variety. The dining area is small, but we just took breakfast back to our room and at the table there.

We had a two-room suite with two king beds - perfect for our family of four with plenty of room and closet space.

Hotel staff was always helpful and friendly.

The mall next door is convenient and we grabbed dinner at restaurants there a couple of times. It was an easy walk to Hollywood Blvd and Chinese Theater. The Hollywood Bowl is just about a mile from the hotel and we enjoyed walking to and around the facility early one morning. Lots of history there. We had a car so didn't use metro, but there was a stop close to the hotel. Getting around LA was much easier than we anticipated and it seemed we were never more than 15 minutes from everywhere we wanted to go.

We had three days in LA and this was a fantastic place to stay. Staff were incredibly helpful and rooms were well set up for a family of four. We had a king deluxe suite with a rollaway bed. We went to Universal Studios one day which was one metro stop from hotel (metro station only 500 metres from hotel). We bought our tickets from the hotel which were cheaper than at Universal. We went to Disneyland one other day and booked a tour again through Orchid Suites.
Had a great stay

I stayed there for just over 2 weeks. The location is awesome, set just behind the Kodak Theatre.
EverywhereI wanted to go was easily accessible from here.
Will definitely stay again when heading to L.A.

I'll have to agree with the other reviewers, location and convenience make this place a a great deal. We're a couple and chose to eat out but having a kitchen would really be great for anyone wanting to save some money. They ought to ban cooking fish though, it really stunk up the whole place one day.
I wrote down the name of the breakfast lady but misplaced it, she was fantastic. It was like having your mother there. (if your Mom was catering to your every wish and you didn't just get a bowl of cereal yourself :-)
One caveat, if they have a high occupancy rate they will charge you more than the advertised price. Although not a huge price hike I thought this bait and switch tactic was a bit deceptive and the first thing that popped into my mind was price gouging. I pasted in their explanation. My email protesting this unadvertised price hike went unanswered.

I let them know I booked at Hollywood Orchid because of TripAdvisor reviews so it should come as no surprise to them I'll pan them on TripAdvisor as well. Other than the price hike I felt the Orchid was a great deal. It does have very thin walls though, luckily the wrestling matches in the adjoining room subsided about 10PM.

"Thank you for submitting your reservation. For the * nights commencing March **, 2014, I have
reserved our last Executive Suite (1 king bed w/ full kitchen) at the average nightly rate of $161.50
plus tax ($169x2/149/159). Your initial confirmation # is ********. Rates are elevated
due to very high occupancy levels."

Room Tip: Ask for inside overlooking the pool, less street noise.

Thank you for your review of the Hollywood Orchid Suites and for staying with us.

I am glad that you had much to like about your stay with us including our great location, prices and staff Our breakfast lady, Patricia goes to great lengths to make sure all our guest are well taken care of and to make sure to refresh and refill the selection regularly. I am also glad you like our fully equipped kitchens with dining tables even though I am sad to hear that the fish smell from a previous guest was not fully dissipated.

Our rate policy is very open and straight forward. On our web site price page we describe our price policy twice and in red on both the top and bottom of the page. It reads as follows. “Please note that rates are often elevated on the weekends, during high occupancy, holidays and for special events and a two-night or more minimum stay is required. Please contact us for an exact quote and availability as these Special Internet Rates are subject to change, availability and confirmation by the hotel” When Selby responded to your email reservation she explained the rate of $161.50 was comprised of an average of rates for all 3 nights of your stay.

I am surprised that your protest email went unanswered as we reply to all our emails several times a day. I compared the $161.50 rate you paid for our Executive King Suite with full kitchen and dining table with continental breakfast included against the 9 competitors within our immediate vicinity. Their average price was $193! Some charged extra for breakfast and some charged double or higher for parking. So the price you paid is still very competitive to this very central and popular neighborhood.

Sincerely,

Sandra Hausaman, Manager
