“Great place to stay in LA”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2014

We had a great time at the Sofitel; staff and service were incredible and helpful and attentive; this was a good home base for us to be able to leave the car behind and can it to great restaurants and shopping. Hotel is right across street from some good high end luxury shops ; decent sized outdoor pool for a downtown hotel so you can get a little ran in too; rooms are well kept up but maybe showing a tiny bit of wear; lounge in hotel was fun to stop in at end of night fir drinks; there always seemed to be something booked in but you could grab a west and people watch; for the price thought it was an exceptional hotel;

Upon arrival for our 4-night stay, at 11pm, the room we were assigned was uncleaned, beds had been slept in, bathroom had clearly recently been used, and it had someone else's air-mattress on the floor. When we requested a new room we were informed that they were 5 rooms overbooked and had no other double rooms available. We were moved two other times before finally getting into our room at 1am (the only reason we got into our room that "quickly" was because Reuben, our sweet bellman, went down and helped them clean the room himself). In the meantime they tried to put 4 people into a single king room (with a roll-away twin bed that we were told could sleep 2 people... Ha!). When we finally got to our room and ready for bed we had to request top sheets and then had to put them on ourselves. Room service had absolutely no taste but at least Marlon, our room service attendant, was so very sweet. Housekeeping was beyond terrible; on our second day our beds were messily made, robes were left in the floor... Third day they didn't even bother cleaning our room. We had to request towels daily, ran out of toilet paper, had ask them to bring us clean trays and ice bucket, and had to continue to request top sheets daily (the guy who brought them to our room handed them off and literally ran out the door without helping us put them on, even after I asked for help)... To "make up for it" they made multiple empty promises. This hotel came highly recommended but turned out to be a complete disappointment. On top of everything that went wrong, the manager Steve never showed his face, never apologized, and had the worst customer service. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone! With the exception of Reuben and Marlon (so grateful that these two gentlemen knew the meaning of customer service and how to be overly accommodating), this was by far the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Unacceptable.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel - the room was an okay size, had an alcove where we could hide our bags and a decent sized bathroom. It had nice decor, the lobby was quite classy. The beds were so super cozy - was like you were sleeping in a cloud. I usually struggle to sleep well on my first night away, but had absolutely no issue here! The location was fab - right across the road from the Beverly Centre and restaurants etc. Plus the Grove was just 5 mins away. The valet parking was quite efficient. The areas for improvement would be - sound proofing! You could hear everything from the hallway and rooms either side - make sure you bring ear plugs! I had also emailed staff earlier to ask for a twin room - but they couldn't give us us before or on the day which was annoying. They did have "air beds" which was really a type of rollaway bed. This took over four hours to be delivered to our room - also annoying. But i then had to ask for extra blankets to put on under sheets as it was so uncomfortable. I couldn't believe they'd expect anyone to sleep on it in its current state!
But overall a good stay.

This location was very busy, yet the staff never made you feel rushed. The room service was very prompt with complementary fruit smoothie and newspaper. All of the staff were very friendly. They offer turn down service.

This was my first visit to the Sofitel. It is a great hotel and in a very vibrant part of LA, ie the Beverly Hills area. LA is known as a city that is not made for walking. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find some very nice locations that one could walk to. Public transport or the lack of it continues to be a problem in LA and it is definitely a driving city. Unfortunately, our stay was a lot shorter than we had planned for. The front desk staff and the concierge were extremely friendly and helpful. We did not have an opportunity to try out any of the other facilities. The room was spacious and well-appointed. There were several breakfast options within 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel. There are also several shopping options close by. Based on what we saw, we will look at another visit to the Sofitel at another time.

Room Tip: We did not have a great view but the verandah was a great boon

Bonjour GoggleEyedTraveller ,
I am happy that your first time at the Sofitel LA was a successfull one!
You are right, LA is definitly a driving city, even if you can walk from the hotel to great places like the Grove, Farmer's market, Melrose Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard...
We hope to see you again soon,

I stayed at the Sofitel Beverly Hills for a 2 night quick shopping stop over & found it to be a great hotel in a fabulous location. The room was lovely and over looked the Hollywood Hills, the service was very good with only one issue of having to wait a long time to have my bags picked up. The hotel is located across from the Beverly Center so has easy access to shops & restaurants & just a few minutes drive to Rodeo Drive etc.

You can't go wrong with Sofitel LA.
I always stay here and i love it. No matter family or business trip,i can't think of staying somewhere else.
It´s been a while since a hotel treats us as real people and not as "customers" or "passengers".
Thank you guys for taking care of all detais.
