“Come by Car or stay put”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Isolation is the only drawback of this beautiful hotel (originally built as the JW Marriott, but now an Interconti). Century City is the problem, not the hotel. This vast area abutting Beverly Hills was once the back lot of 21 Century Fox Studios, In fact, all the room on the back side of the hotel look over the studio. The movie company had to sell this land after the disaster of Cleopatra way back in the 1950's. And developers back then never thought that anyone would want to walk when they could drive. So Century City is pretty inhospitable to foot travel. The broad avenues span the distance between high rise office buildings. At night it is deserted. There is a Westfield Mall at then other end of the tract with restaurants at the far end of that, but it is a good 20 minute hike from the hotel. So you are kind of isolated here, and if you do have a car there is nowhere to park except the $35 a day valet parking. The plus side of isolation is a great hotel, first class outdoor swimming pool, and if you are on jet lag, spectacular views of the sun rising over LA and setting over the Pacific Ocean.

Room Tip: East side if you like sunrise views of LA, west side for sunset over the Pacific

There are many individual touches at this hotel that set it above what we had stayed in on our around the world trip. The welcome, the friendly, helpful and very informative porters, the spacious room, the restaurant, pool area and of course the complimentary chauffeur driven Mercedes. We were really looked after from the moment we arrived until we left.

This full service hotel is comfortable and pleasant to stay at. From the valet and bell desk, to the front desk and restaurant staff...we had a great stay with the family. The room was clean, and the room service was quick. We'll be back next time we're in town.

This past weekend was our third getaway at the Intercontinental, and my husband and I just want to spread the word. First, the staff is amazing. Kudos to whoever does the hiring, because the employees here are just naturally warm and friendly, very sincere, yet efficient and intuitive. There is none of the phony forced chatter that is routine in nicer hotels these days. The rooms are spotless and nicely decorated, with thoughtful touches (large desk with plenty of outlets, lots of dresser storage space, Keurig coffee maker with coffee and tea capsules, spacious bathrooms with great lighting, and fabulous bathrobes!). And although the view has never been a priority when staying here, we haven't had a bad view yet.

As far as location, if you have a car this is a great place to be. Everything is between a 5 to 25 minute drive from here (although at rush hour triple that); Beverly Hills, Westwood Village/UCLA, Santa Monica and the beach, the popular shopping and dining center known as The Grove, the Getty Museum and Universal Studios to name a few.

If you want an attractive, well-run hotel with a great central location, this is your place.

I stayed here for 4 nights with my mum after a long flight from Australia before heading to NY! We loved our stay here!

It was walking distance to the shopping centre; the staff were very friendly & helpful; our room was spacious & clean; and the breakfast was great.

We definitely would stay here again!

We chose the InterContinental because of our terrific experience with their Chicago location, but were a bit disappointed with the Century City experience. Later at night when my kids went to bed, I tried to take a bath and found that the stopper did not work. So, I tried to take a shower and there were three shower heads out of which only one worked. We did not call the front desk since it was very late and my kids were sleeping and we were checking out the next morning. When I checked out, I informed the gal of the issue so that the next traveler would not be inconvenienced. She just asked us why we didn't call the front desk. Location was great, and friendly staff - although valet personnel were not as friendly. For the price we paid for our room, I guess I at least expected to be able to have the bathing facilities working.

I've been visiting this hotel for many years, in fact, back to the days when it was The Park Hyatt. Recent trips have in my opinion showed that standards are declining although at least superficially this remains a fine hotel. Biggest issues are: some rooms have poor facilities (my recently only had a shower in the bath, not a separate cubicle, and the temperature was impossible to keep constant through the mixer tap! The air conditioning is old and very noisy. The dining room is too small to accommodate enough guests at breakfast leading to long waits or having to move into the bar area. Prices for food and drink are very high although the quality is pretty high. On the plus side, staff are generally all great and the gym is well equipped, free to guests and available 24/7. Perfect when jet-lag strikes.

Room Tip: Insist on a separate shower and check the noise level of the aircon. Inter-connectring doors are pa...
