“Old Hollywood Landmark”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

The oldest restaurant in Hollywood and always a delightful experience. White tablecloths, panelled walls, red coated waiters and the best Martini's anywhere. Extensive menu covering all the bases.Anyone visiting LA for the first time should definitely dine here to get a "taste" of old Hollywood. Pricey but definitely worth it.

“Old Hollywood...”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

You wouldn't rave about the old-fashioned, slightly pricey but perfectly fine menu - steaks and soups and pot pie.
But anyone with a love of the old Hollywood - waiters in suits with perfect manners, dark wood-panelled decor unchanged since 1919, white table-cloths and low lighting - simply MUST make a trip for dinner one night.
If you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of Jean Harlow and Clark Gable sitting at a table (or was I just imagining that?)

“You won't be disappointed with the Food.”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

It's Expensive to eat here, but the food is some of the best you will have.

Not open Sunday or Monday!

--Here is how it shaped up last night:

Short Ribs (Served Sat only): 5 of 5 --You will not have better anywhere.

Turkey: 4 of 5 --If more peeps knew how to make it this way for Thanksgiving, the world would be a better place.

Mixed Salad with Balsamic: 5 of 5 -- I am going to have a hard time eating salad anywhere else after tasting this preparation.

Beans: 4 of 5 -- If you thought that beans are boring eat here.

Table Bread: 5 of 5 -- We can eat this type of bread as our meal it's so good.

Service: 4 of 5 -- Rushed but efficient. This is not a restaurant to come to be babied over. It's old school. Don't order substitutions here or try to modify the meals--no matter what we told our waiter--it comes out of the kitchen the same way it's been coming out for over 50 years.

Parking: They have parking and you will Pay for it. Park cheaper at Hollywood and Highland center and walk to save some money. Great place to eat before a Pantages show or Hollywood Bowl and walk it over after.

What we HATED:

When the bill came, they charged us $2.00 extra to split a large $10.00 salad onto 2 plates without warning and after we paid $75.00 for dinner. This is not a situation where all we ordered was 1 meal to split--we had 2 full dinners and more--we were just sharing the salad. I know its just $2.00, but this is not Denny's, and we were not taking up a table without spending big. Fine dining places should not engage in this behavior--it leaves a bad aftertaste.

“Terrible and Dirty!”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

Four of us went out to dinner here and were all disappointed. The caesar salad didn't have any bacon and the croutons were packaged. Filet minion was very dry. The washroom was sooo dirty and the bar area stunk like bad oil, I couldn't help thinking what the kitchen must be like. It seems that they have not put any money back into this place for 50 years. Don't look to closely at the floor. I do have to say that the service was very good but I will not go back here ever!

“The Past and the Present meet at Musso & Frank”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Musso & Frank's style is "clubby" (wood paneling, yellow-ish lighting, comfy booths) but the historic menu is up-to-date and the service is excellent. Best of all, the cocktails are generous and well-priced. This was a hang-out for Raymond Chandler, Nathanael West, the book-sellers Stanley Rose, Jake Zeitlin and Louis Epstein and most writers who earned a living since M&F opened in 1919. Their 'specials' are just that and anyone who can't find something to love on the huge, a la carte menu is too-picky an eater. If you're going to live theatre in Hollywood it's well-located, with its own, bargain-priced validated parking. M&F is The Real Thing!
