This was the first time we dined at Chi's, although we have dined in the same shopping center countless times at Alesio Italian restaurant and at the former Kabuki sushi house. Chi's just remodeled, and the new atmosphere is spacious and modern, kind of like a chic urban fusion rather than grandma's cliche Chinese kitchen. The staff was very friendly and attentive. It was refreshing to see an ethnically mixed wait staff, and not the usual Asian only stoic waiters. But of course, it all boils down to the food. And the food is amazing! The wanton soup was a rich broth, and overflowing with vegetables. One of the best soup's we have ever gotten in a Chinese restaurant. The walnut shrimp was top notch. Their sweet and pungent chicken is thin sliced and then flash fried, for a lite and crispy taste. Not greasy; not bready. The yang chow fried rice was right on the money, and lite on the salt/soy sauce -- as it should be. Many oriental restaurants go heavy with the sodium (salt), but Chi's maintained a lite touch. Savory, but not salty! We recommend this restaurant one hundred percent! It is nice to not have to drive all the way to Burbank (Gourmet 88) or Glendale (Panda Inn) for an excellent tasting and reasonably priced nice dinner. None of us could think of anything negative to say... other than too bad we live out of their driver delivery range.
