The penny dropped a long time ago that restaurants in the haute cuisine category populate every nook and cranny of LA, and Hinoki and the Bird is no exception. They probably deserve five stars were it not for the fact the bar in LA is set so high.

Modern Japanese. Highly creative concoctions. I decided to go for several starters - Hamachi (fish) in a herbal marinade and a pork loins dish with plum sauce - both delicious.

I find the American custom of constantly re-charging your glass with whatever soft drink you're having, disconcerting but you might decide that's great value.

This stylish restaurant attracts a fashionable crowd. It sits in the shadow of Fox Studios, which is a stone's throw.

Great decor and atmosphere and again, typical of LA, charming and informed staff serving.

There's a large patio area. We sat outside in the patio area, an experience only spoilt by a pesky fly buzzing our plates. But otherwise another wonderful, creative LA restaurant.

“Innovative, but not tortured food that is delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2014

You do have to pay to park at this hidden gem and yes, it is a bit pricey depending on what you order, but the menu is very well executed. Lobster roll is crazy expensive at $18, but quite good-wouldn't order again because other things like the steak and the cod were a much better value and more ample in size and they were both outstanding. A simple yam is done so well it amazes. And the desserts….the honey caramel outshines the miso donuts but the vietnamese coffee is the perfect blend of sweet and not so sweet packed in a glass…for sure order it. Service is good as well although things come out in a random order. If possible get a seat near the kitchen so you can watch the care the chefs take with each detail.

Very nice, stylish modern Restaurant. Good crowd, nice atmosphere. Be Aware it can get noisy when crowded. You also might have to wait despite Reservation if you arrive at Peak hours (e.g. we arrived at 8 PM and had to wait for 30 minutes until our table was ready).

Very friendly Service which is also efficient.

Excellent Food. The Starters (Tuna, Oysters etc), mains (Beef Fillet was outstanding Quality, also other dishes were excellent). Good Desserts.

Really must say, for me one of the best experiences in LA, great Food, great atmosphere!
