“good food in quiet setting”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

I had lunch here during DineLA Restaurant week. Three courses for $20. A bargain and the food was good, not great. Pleasant, friendly staff..

“Restaurant 2117 is a quiet and friendly, with very good food and service.”
Reviewed August 30, 2009

My wife and I dine at least once a month at Restaurant 2117. Unlike a growing percentage of West Los Angeles restaurants, 2117 is a place where where adults can talk and be understood in normal voices. The tables are spaced with room for privacy. The service is friendly and professional. The food is always excellent and the wine list is resonable. It is near the corner of Olympic and Sawtelle Blvd. a block west of the 405 freeway. We highly recommend this unpretentiious, quiet and civilized restaurant.

“Disappointing and going downhill”
Reviewed February 23, 2008

We used to be big fans of this restaurant. Just ate there tonight, taking some friends, and was disappointed. They have the specials board posted in the restaurant when you get there. Our reservation was at 7:30 p.m. so it was early in the evening. We tried to order 3 or 4 of the specials, but were told that they were out of what amounted to all shellfish (lobster, shrimp, muscles, clams, etc.--all of which were on the specials). The woman who was taking our orders "doled" out this information very slowly, only telling us that they were out of the dish when we ordered it. After 3-4 attempts to order dishes, we asked why these were still shown on the specials board if they were out of them (its a chalkboard that they write on each day, with different specials). The waitress had no answer. We told her they shouldn't mislead people and should erase them from specials board. She just nodded. She seemed to be getting upset with us for pointing out that they didn't have dishes we wanted or that they should let people know when they sit down or erase them from the board. That isn't customer service.

When we left at 9:15 p.m. they still had not erased any of the dishes they didn't have from the specials board. I can understand if we arrived late and they had already served a lot of dinners and ran out of some ingredients, but this wasn't the case. I can even understand if they didn't get their delivery of shellfish, that happens, but erase them from the specials board. Very poor management and treatment.

Next, one of our diners order the crab salad, appetizer size. Two other diners ordered the dish in a "larger" size, as an entree, which was about $3 more expensive. When the main dishes came, they were the exact same size as the appetizer portion. We asked if the entree size was the same size as the appetizer, and were told that the entree was bigger, but 4 fairly intelligent and observant people (all professionals) all thought that the sizes of the appetizer and entree portion were exactly the same, the only difference being that the appetizer was served on a smaller plate than the entree. Again, very bad form.

I don't know if there are different owners now, different staff, different cook, whatever, but this restaurant has clearly gone downhill since we were last there about 1 year ago.

I can't recommend this restaurant to people anymore.

Yes, prices are more reasonable than some other restaurants, and some of the food tastes good, but the customer service just isn't up to snuff.

We weren't happy to see that, since this used to be a favorite restaurant. They have a reasonable corkage (its gone up from $7 to $10, but its still much more reasonable than most other restaurants). However, something has definitely gone wrong with customer service and treatment.

“A little expensive, but...”

A little expensive, but the food is excellent. They always have interesting specials. The flourless chocolate ganache cake is delicious!
