I go off the beaten path in LA, and stumbled upon this wonderful place. Casa Chocolate is found in a small strip mall on Pico Blvd, in modest settings, but the caliber of the chocolate is equal to what you would find in the most expensive parts of the city.
I am a chocolate snob, as I was fortunate to have worked in Belgium, and I love this chocolate. The chef is from Oaxaca, Mexico, an area known for great food, and he imports cacao beans and makes the chocolate himself. His selection is increasing over time, and I now really like his peanut butter cups and dipped marshmallows. He does a coated apple called "Pico de Gallo", that is such a combination of sweet and spicy that it is hard to describe, so you must try it yourself.
In addition to chocolate, he is a great chef and offers delicious breakfasts and lunch options. My wife and I had a huge breakfast the other day, and also bought a lot of chocolate, and the bill was barely over $20. So the price makes this place a great value and worth going off the beaten path.
