“Amusing Name, Serious Food”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

This is arguably the best Indian restaurant in the valley. The food is excellent, the service is first-rate, the prices reasonable, and the ambiance is acceptable. Only Indians staff this restaurant. They will spice the dishes according to your taste. I asked for lamb vindaloo, very spicy, and it was very spicy. Their freshly prepared breads were delicious. Don’t make the mistake of going to another restaurant for this type of cuisine.

“Return Vist”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

Visiting from Australia and our son took us there in December 2011. We requested to revisit December 2012. Food and service was wonderful. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Indian food.

“Chicken Tikka Masala Heaven!”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

I've eaten Indian food all over LA, and I agree with another reviewer that this is the best in town. Chicken Tikka Masala is the dish upon which I judge all Indian establishments, and theirs is the most delicious I've ever had, with an incredible creamy sauce. Also love the saag paneer and garlic naan, raita and mango chutney. The best thing about their cooking is that it has lots of flavor without being too oily, which is a big problem with lots of Indian food.
Mild heat level is no way to get the best flavor out of this food, if you like mild, might I suggest pancakes from DuPar's down the street. Medium is perfect for most people and those who like a bit of heat, "medium to hot," has quite a kick. And beware: HOT will blow your head off !
Service is excellent, this is a very small place, not a great option for kids or large parties. I live too far for delivery, but this is my go-to, the food is fresh and hot, and it's worth the drive for take out.
Okay... I've made myself hungry. Screw the diet, I'm ordering right now.

“Acceptably Indian”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

It's hard to find good Indian food in Los Angeles. Of the five or so decent restaurants none could be described as 'gourmet' - so, if you love fine and authentic Indian food, LA is a challenge.

Bollywood Cafe consistently manages to turn out an acceptable Indian meal. It's a small little place on the border between Universal City and Studio City. Excellent and friendly service. A very professionally run restaurant.

The Tikka Masala and the Korma dishes are good and hot. Pilau rice just right. All the correct condiments. As good a Peshwari Naan as you'll find anywhere. Prices are moderate, and the atmosphere in the small room is usually subdued and warm.

They have a thriving 'take-out' business, so if you're staying in the area they're a good choice for a hearty meal to go. Service both in the restaurant and 'to go' is super quick.

“Walk Away From This Place”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

It is small hole in wall near Universal Studio.

Restaurant service as well as food quality and taste were complete disappointment. I strongly recommend NOT to go to this facility. There is nothing good to say of this place. (I have been to many other Indian restaurants in USA.) Please find some other facility. There has to other better Indian restaurants than this. It is just TERRIBLE.

I specially asked how I wanted my food to be done and they completely disregarded the request.

At no point after the food was delivered, there was any follow-up from their staff of whether the food was OK or whether we need anything or drinks, etc. Not even follow-up on water.

The restaurant does have a mini-bar where their staff can prepare a specific drink or provide you a choice of beer or wine.

The cost of food items were in mid-range. But again you could not pay me to go there again.
