Dining style: Casual Elegant
Cross street: Franklin Avenue
Transit: Metro Red Line to Hollywood & Highland. Walk west down Hollywood Blvd turn right on Orange and cross at the light on Franklin. Once you cross at the light go left and turn right at sycamore going up the hill. It is a very steep hill so walking in dress shoes or in the dark are not recommended. We suggest calling a cab at the bottom of the hill.
Description: Yamashiro - translated to "mountain palace" - broke ground in 1911 and was completed in 1914 as a residence for the Bernheimer brothers. Housing a priceless collection of Asian treasures, the building was designed as a replica of a palace located in the mountains near Kyoto, Japan. During the "Golden Age" of Hollywood, Yamashiro served as the ultra-exclusive hang-out for the "Club of the Four Hundred": the era's most famous and influential stars and movie moguls. The structure and its grounds served as a boy's military school and later apartments before being acquired in 1948 by the Thomas O. Glover, who discovered the beauty beneath the disrepair and refurbished the space. Currently owned by Thomas Y. Glover, Yamashiro is still flourishing over 60 years later as an Asian-inspired Los Angeles institution.

Recently went to Yamashiro with my wife, daughter, and her friend. It was a start of an evening celebrating my birthday and Mother`s Day. We hadn`t been here in many years but it didn`t disappoint. The service was quick and friendly. The food was very good, and the views are fantastic. Though Yamashiro gets its share of tourists, locals will feel welcome too. The restaurant is a copy of an actual palace in Japan, and dates to the early 1900's so it`s part of Hollywood History. This is one of those places you will want to come back to, whether it`s for a special night out, or just a great meal and terrific view.

Impeccable service.

I was expecting a bit of snobbery and everyone was so nice. The view is incredible and the sushi was wonderful. I loved the mixed drinks. The one with gin and basil and cucumber was outstanding.

What's nice is that you can walk around the grounds and there are so many sweet details. It's such a historical place.

Delicious. Pricey, but found my seafood hotpot to be well worth the US$10.

They found out it was my friend's birthday and brought her a brownie decorated for her birthday, complete with candle.

Lovely staff. Lovely view. Would definitely go again!

Yes, this place is a little pricy. But you get what you pay for. This was one of the best meals we had in LA. The view from the restaurant is amazing, and each course was perfection. We had an appetizer that was an ahi poke (may have been a special that day) that was as great as any we've had in Hawaii! The servers were wonderful, the timing of each course was great. We will definitely go back if we are in LA again.

I've been here with my wife last summer, passing by LA during my honeymoon... We head about it regarding spectacular Martini Cocktails... The place is astonishingly located on the holliwood hills so is good for sloping dow after dinner but not for climbing before on foot. The food is good, the service as well... Teh cocktails amazing and the view stunning. I'm sorry about forget almost half the dinner cause i've been drunk... i'll be back next summer
