The sandwiches are all fabulous. Be sure to have cash, they don't take credit cards.
You're walking distance from Chinatown, Olvera Street and the Siqueiros mural mural. and union station. There are many places to visit and things to see within walking distance. They have a parking lot across the street from restaurant. Street parking is also fairly easy to find.

Old school diner and definitely worth a visit. Won't hurt the pocket book either. Archaic system of ordering and receiving your food but a good way of keeping costs down. The end product will pleasantly surprise you.

The sawdust on the floor and eclectic mix of customers made me fall in love with this place immediately even before I ate the sandwich. The Beef Dip sandwich is really good and can be ordered single, double or wet. The sandwich was really good as well.

I've been going here for 30+ years. Even though it is far from the typical suburbs of LA (i.e. SFV, SCV, etc) we will still make the drive (especially early mornings on weekends) to avoid traffic from SCV (think Magic Mountain distance if you're unfamiliar with the various valleys). Their breakfast is great and the ambiance is even better. Upon checkout, I always get their famous French Dip to go for lunch at home. Make no mistake about this place, it is NOT fancy at all. Sawdust ( I think?) always on the floor. Staff is incredibly friendly. Just a 3 min walk from Union Station/Metro Link. Again, it's historical for Los Angeles and seems to have retained more of its charm/innocence than its East Coast historical deli - Carnegie's deli which is obviously different but seems more touristy than this place.

A historical landmark and the wet sandwiches are a must to have... great price for coffee and the lemonade will hit the spot during those hot summer days. Don't forget to try the chili beans... they are great too!

Good FREE parking and be prepared to wait in line during lunch time... make sure to bring cash to tip the ladies who will make/prepare your order. Price is over $6 a sandwich, but worth having if your in this part of L.A.
