Every time we've visited LA we go to Philippe and again it was great. We recommend the need double dipped sandwich with cheese, and the turkey double dipped sandwich. We love the potato salad and coleslaw.
This time we had a baby with us so for anyone going with a baby/child there are changing stations in the restrooms and very comfy and easy to use highchairs.
Also we discovered an 'express lane' for those who have already ordered and are going back for pie or more drinks.
Fast service good food not too expensive a must do when in LA!

I love going to this place because they have the best Beef Dip Sandwiches.
You walk in and the floor does have sawdust on it but it doesn't take a way from the French Beef Dip. They are always yummy and you want to ask for double dip. It really makes it good.

My mom ate lunch here when she worked in downtown LA over 60 years ago. We had to try it. We now make a stop before a Dodgers game when in town or on our way to the cruise terminal in San Pedro. We once stopped by in December and there was a 4-piece brass band playing Christmas music – very enjoyable! Ask to have your meats double-dipped so that the sandwiches are not as dry. Make sure, if you’re a coffee drinker, to order coffee; I think it’s a whopping 5 cents. You MUST try their mustard. We now buy at least a dozen jars one time a year as we share them with friends and/or use them as Christmas stocking stuffers. Their mustard is #1 in our house.

Nothing but a tourist trap!!!! Poor food, expensive, mediocre service, mediocre atmosphere. We ordered 2 beef sandwiches and 1 pickled egg and the bill was $20. The amount of meat could not have been more than 3 oz, the bread was descent, not enough au jus which made the sandwich dry and bland. I have been there several times and always hope for improvement. My guest today insisted that we go and she was so excited that I did not have the heart to decline. China town and Alvera street are just around the corner and amazing food awaits for you there.

A great meal that will fuel your LA day for under $7. Try the Lrmon Merangue or Coconut Cream pie, its not overly sweet, its enough to share and totally worth it even if you only have a bite.
