There is always a wait, but if you love good, fresh sushi and sashimi, the wait is well worth it. It can be pricey if you sit at the sushi bar, but we went for lunch at a table and there were very reasonable specials. Check their webstie. They have short hours for both lunch and dinner. Come early and just be prepared to wait. You won't regret it. Fast, excellent service. Even the tempura was cooked to perfection with a light, lacy batter. But it's all about the fish. Can't wait to go back.

Yes the sushi is fresh and good, but the lines are simply ridiculous. We had to wait over an hour for dinner to sit at the sushi bar and for lunch the wait was soo ridiculous that there were about 50 people outside before the place even opened. It was going to be well over an hour to get seated for lunch on a weekday. Dinner for 3 was about 300 dollars, so although the sushi was good, it wasn't necessarily cheaper than other good sushi places in LA. Combine the ridiculous wait times, with the average price for the sushi, I'm sure you can find better places without the wait and maybe a bit more ambiance.

Sushi Gen is one of those authentic Japanese restaurants with no frills because the quality of their fish speaks for itself. Nested in a small strip mall in Downtown LA's Little Tokyo, it may be hard to find. There is a parking lot attendant visible on 2nd St. Make sure to get your ticket validated.

I've been a few times for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed my experiences at the sushi bar while enjoying omakase. The sushi chef's work with you if you do not like a particular type of fish voice it to them. I love their seared otoro, shrimp that comes with fried head in a soup, and their spanish mackerel. Beware, do not use soy sauce or come expecting spicy mayo. The sushi chef will let you know how each piece should be appreciated.

I recently came for their sashimi lunch special which in all honestly is a steal. For $15 you get miso soup, rice, and a sashimi platter that will be sure to fill you up. Although there isn't any toro offered at lunch, this amazing deal will suffice. Make sure to either get there early before they open or come after the first set of people are seated.

This was by far the freshest sushi that I have ever had! Parking isn't easy and we waited an hour for a table, but the sushi is worth it. We ordered a mix of sashimi and rolls and followed up with seconds of our favorites. We all liked the sashimi best because it is really where you can taste the freshness of the fish. My recommendation is to order more of the sashimi because that is what makes this place special.

Sushi Gen is a busy place, make sure you have reservation before you go. The wait can be very very long. They offer fresh sushi & combination choice for dinner. Though this place can be expensive. Its a popular japanese restaurant in Japanese town, good quality of food.
