“Excellent South Indian food!”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

Superb tasting South Indian food. We sampled Dosas, Vada, and Idlis. We were really happy with the taste and quality of food served.

The one downside of this place is that there is no street parking until after 7PM. Thats a hassle.
Food as such is great! Highly recommended.

“OMG Masala Dolsa”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

Southern Indian food is not easy to find unless you are in a big city like LA. I have eaten at Paru's regularly since th 70's. I go out of my way to eat at this vegetarian bistro in East Hollywood. And I go back again and again because of the Masala Dolsa.

This dish is a fermented rice and dal flour crepe filled with potato curry. Apparently a staple in Southern India, it's a rare restaurant that bothers to take the time to ferment the batter. It extends beyond the edges of a dinner plate and it seems everyone who goes to Paru's knows about this delicacy and they march out of the small kitchen.

I love sending friends there when they go to LA. It's a very special experience.

“Indian vegetarian->Delicious.”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

We have been going here frequently since the mid-nineties. Never a bad experience. If you are trying it for the first time, don't be scared off by the restaurant's exterior. From the street, the place looks nothing except scary. However, once inside, you will find a tranquil zone with lots of plants and soothing Indian music and a divine mixture of smells.

The staff is attentive and seems to remember every guest. Many of the employees have been here for years and show great pride in their work.

The menu is a mixture of vegetarian and vegan options. Unlike many other Indian restaurants, Paru's will make special dishes to meet special dietary needs.

Besides the food and ambiance, the place is incredible for people watching. Despite its frightening facade, many from the entertainment industry frequent Paru's.

I wish they would update the bathrooms which appear stuck in the sixties, but otherwise the place is great.

Recommendation: Ask for the vegan thali to get a little taste of many dishes.

Warning: parking can be difficult and you should bring quarters to park on Sunset Blvd.

“Great Idlis !”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

If you measure this place by how it looks on the outside, you'll miss good food! I'm from the south of India - The idli here is as good as it gets ! Try the idli with ghee and you'll have a good benchmark for what idlis should taste like!
